Complexity. Aged for three months in Wild Turkey Bourbon barrels, this luxurious stout has a deep ebony hue and a beautiful mahogany head. The woody, vanilla-like notes imparted by the barrels mingle with aromas of fresh baked bread, toffee, and espresso and envelop the rich chocolate and roasted barley flavors with a fine bourbon character. Our exclusive partnership with Wild Turkey gives Anderson Valley a world class, consistent source of barrelage, allowing our brewers to explore new frontiers in barrel-aged craft beer.

Poured from bottle into chalice. Deep black color with really nice airy foamy tan head. lots of roasted malt aromas and hints of chocolate. Similar flavor...roasted malt and a lot of chocolate flavor with a hint of vanilla. Only a slight note of bourbon, but that may be the vanilla I taste. I think the best quality of this brew is how smooth it is. Its silky, creamy, and so easy to drink. Really a nice stout...although walking the line of imperial, its nice to get such a good quality semi-low abv American Stout. Well worth a try. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

One of the best barrel aged stouts I’ve tried. Nice deep woody textures and smells, velvety smooth and rich. Almost black body, small beige head, lots of whiskey essence without taking over.

Very dark brown, the aroma is a bit fruity, sweet and bourbon character. A bit assertive, sweet and heavy on both booze and barrel.

[Bottle] Jet black pour with a small amount of light brown head. Nose is of whiskey and lesser amounts of mocha and brown sugar. Vanilla, caramel malts, charred wood, lots of hot alcohol and anise round out the flavor. Average palate. Tried this at a tasting along side many other bourbon barrel stouts. This one seemed to have more of a raw bourbon flavor that didn’t blend as well with the rest of the beer as I would have liked. I was surprised that it actually had the least alcohol out of the ones we tried. Tasting notes from 2/2014.

22 oz bomber into a snifter. Pours black with a small khaki head that leaves a fair amount of lacing. Aroma of roasted coffee, chocolate, vanilla, bourbon and oak. Taste is bourbon, oak, dark chocolate, and roasted coffee up front with vanilla, plum and black licorice behind it. Bourbon comes through very well, but doesn’t overwhelm or burn. Long finish of rich malts, bourbon, oak and vanilla. Full bodied, thick and creamy texture, average carbonation. An excellent bourbon barrel stout! Worth the money.

Bottle courtesy of RoNo. Pours reddish blackish brown with a small dark mocha head that quickly dissipates while leaving a small trace on the glass. Smell is malty with roasted malts, ripe banana, dark chocolate, oatmeal cookies, dried cherries, liquorice fudge, vanilla fudge, moist soil, charred wood and hints of bourbon. Taste is slightly sweet, slightly bitter, tiny sour and malty with roasted malts, dark chocolate, dark roast coffee, oatmeal cookies, burnt caramel, cherry pits, hay, charred wood, liquorice fudge, vanilla hard candy, charred wood, cherry pits and hints of bourbon. Mouthfeel is soft, round, tiny roasted tart and medium bodied. Finish is tiny sweet, bitter and malty with roasted malts, dark chocolate, dark roast coffee, vanilla hard candy, charred wood, cherry pits and bourbon. Quite good...

Draft sample on two occasions. Pours dark brown to black in color with a small beige head. The aroma and flavor have some sweet oatmeal notes, bourbon, vanilla, light roast and wood. The base beer is not a bad readily available stout, but this is not big enough to support the barrel. I think it needs more to balance the barrel.

Pours black with a soft creamy mocha head. Aroma is vanilla, roasted malts, brown sugar, chocolate. Taste is chocolate, vanilla, roasted malts, honey, brown sugar. Mouthfeel is somewhat thin with low carbonation. Aftertaste is vanilla and milk chocolate. A bit too thin in the body but otherwise alright.
