COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Complexity. Aged for three months in Wild Turkey Bourbon barrels, this luxurious stout has a deep ebony hue and a beautiful mahogany head. The woody, vanilla-like notes imparted by the barrels mingle with aromas of fresh baked bread, toffee, and espresso and envelop the rich chocolate and roasted barley flavors with a fine bourbon character. Our exclusive partnership with Wild Turkey gives Anderson Valley a world class, consistent source of barrelage, allowing our brewers to explore new frontiers in barrel-aged craft beer.

Tap at Lost Dog Cafe. Pours opaque black with a small, frothy tan head, short retention with good lacing. Aroma is bourbon, vanilla, and oak with chocolate and roast malt and raisin esters. Flavor is malt dominant with bourbon, vanilla and oak, dark fruity esters and a sweet finish. Full body and medium carbonation.

Smell and pour look promising. Initial taste is a flat stout followed by light oats and finishes vanilla. Subpar really.

It tastes good, but was not impressive. It does not remind me of bourbon, it does not remind me of vanilla, but vanilla is all I taste. This is my worst review ever.

Bottle. Pours a pitch black body, huge creamy light beige head. Nose is grains, leather, licorice, chocolate, bourbon, hints of vanilla and wood. Taste is dark berries, bourbon, chocolate, leather, licorice and hints of caramel and brown cheese. Full body, medium carbonation. Nice bourbon BA stout, though not outstanding.

650ml bottle. Very sweet vanilla/caramel aroma, reminiscent of a fine bourbon. Creamy on the tongue and extremely sweet, leaving a soft malty punch of bourbon and a faint espresso after taste. Maybe the abv could be higher and the sweet lower, I would appreciate the trade off.

Black bodied, small head. Rustic roasted malts, lots of vanilla, mocha and a bit earthy. Modern classic appeal, as it’s got barrel aging and dark malts and everything yet all balanced and a bit dimmed. Drinks well, but a bit thin, perhaps also of the bourbon aging. I’m not overly impressed. Pretty sure I’d rather have the non aged version with thicker malts. (65cl bottle from Saveur Bière)

It pours black with a deep brown head. The is a definitive bourbon aroma that is present. There is a hint of bread malts. There is a toffee taste mixed with bourbon flavoring and espresso. It has a rich texture with an alcohol kick on the palate.

Nice Wild turkey characteristics - vanilla and big spice on top of the traditional stout characteristics. A little thin, as I always thought it a bit odd to barrel age such a low ABV beer. Still well made and enjoyable.

On tap @ Taphouse. This is a really deep and dark brown looking one with a nice really lacing deep beige head. Nice non-super-extreme nose. I get chocolate with wood, smoke, some cocoa powder and sweet snickers nuts. It has some slightly dryish woody flavors. Feels gliding oily in the mouth and it has a best described creamy and growing in the mouth carbonation level. Lots and lots of vanilla! Chocolate with a dark roasted profile. Traces of snickers nuts in the taste also. Slightly sweet. Ends with a dry cocoa finish with hints of alcohol and Bourbon. Lots of flavor in deed. Enjoyed this one. 01.05.2014

Location: 22 oz bottle from Oak Tree, 7/11/14

Aroma: The aroma is bourbon and oak, some roast malts, chocolate,
Appearance: It pours a black-brown color with a small brown head, and streaky lace
Flavor: The taste is sweet and bourbony, heavy malty, with a long sweet/boozy finish
Palate: The body is lighter than expected, clean, average carbonation, with heat on the finish
Overall Impression: Solid stuff, the bourbon really seems to be the star. It is lighter on the mouth than a typical example of this style, but it isn’t watery at all.
