COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Each year, when people are starting to unpack their winter clothes and replenish their firewood, our tiny brewery in the coastal redwoods of Northern California makes seasonal preparations of a different kind. As the cold arrives, we release a unique beverage created to add warmth to even the coldest and darkest of winter's days. Winter Solstice Seasonal Ale begins with a very high original gravity to create a hearty and spicy brew with a deep amber hue and a smooth finish. Anderson Valley Brewing Company wishes you the very best for the holiday season and the New Year.

Dark colour, as a strong tea, with reddish nuances. Beige head, well carbonated, shortlasting. Earthy aromas, to caramel and brown sugar, some spices as cinnamon or muscat nuts. Very nice taste, to nuts, caramel and a spicy touch. Watery texture and a decreasing and smooth finish. I like it.

Bottle pour into nonic pint glass from One Stop Market, Haverhill, MA. Aroma is bready malt with a little bit of caramel, vanilla, cocoa and holiday spice. Appearance is attractive amber/copper with slight haze, no sparkle, 2 finger-width creamy/frothy off-white head with decent retention and lacing. Taste is caramel and vanilla sweetness with mild roastiness and cocoa. Palate is medium bodied with creamy texture, initial lively carbonation that stings the lips, and nice long finish. Overall, this is a nice sweet treat without being cloying. Smooth and creamy.

Not much aroma or head. Color is deep satisfying red brown. Initial taste is happily diverse with not too much hops nor too much sweetness. Initial aftertaste its a bit like concrete or clay, but gives way to a respectable earthiness with subtle herbal aspect. Mouthfeel is lively.

On tap @ Dorothy 6. Pours a clear dark brownish amber with a thin white head. Just a hint of spice in the aroma. Feels thin with fairly weak flavors. Some sweetness and light spice. After it warmed up a bit the sweet toffee flavor is more noticeable but still pretty weak. A little too smooth for me and not enough bold flavors. OK but nothing special.

This is one of the best seasonal ale Iíve had this year. Has plenty of good malty flavor not overly spiced smooth easy to drink, would recommend.

Very pleasant surprise. Unique flavor that makes you want more. Would buy more of this beer. Nice balance of spices that are very mild. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Soft aroma of malts, maple and a bit of cinnamon. Brown, reddish copperlike clear colour with a little white head. Malty maplelike flavours with a peachlike, cherriish edge. Bitter malty afrertaste. Great for the season!

Iím not a big fan of this style, but itís enjoyable enough. Lots of dried raisins and prunes, sweet molasses, carbonated enough to keep it slightly light. Not bad.
