Commercial Description:
Each year, when people are starting to unpack their winter clothes and replenish their firewood, our tiny brewery in the coastal redwoods of Northern California makes seasonal preparations of a different kind. As the cold arrives, we release a unique beverage created to add warmth to even the coldest and darkest of winter's days. Winter Solstice Seasonal Ale begins with a very high original gravity to create a hearty and spicy brew with a deep amber hue and a smooth finish. Anderson Valley Brewing Company wishes you the very best for the holiday season and the New Year.

This pours a beautiful reddish-brown color with a creamy, fluffy head. The aroma was mildly hoppy with delicate malt sweetness. Vanilla bean is dominant with orange peel for balance. There also seemed to be a hint of nutmeg (i seemed to be the only one who could smell it). The Taste was of roasted malt, vanilla and carameled apple. The bitterness was mild which allowed the vanilla to finish slightly above the hopps. Sweet and slightly spicy, The higher alcohol (6.9% ABV) added a nice warming affect. The balanced was perect from start to finish. I loved this beer so much over the hollidays I bought all that I could, as to enjoy it year round. I find it very drinkable and i’m looking forward to a fresh batch this year.

12 oz bottle from a trade with Funknmilla. 2007 vintage. pours deep amber with a quick tan head. aromas are dark fruits, some spice. the flavour is pretty bland with some dark wheat beer characteristics. mouthfeel is thin. mediocure at best. thx for the bottle Funk!

While I was excited about this beer and it was a beautiful color, I am really underimpressed with this beer. Can’t wait for this glass to be gone.

bottle poured a caramel amber color with a thick frothy light tan two finger head that fell very slowly. light carbonation with tiny bubbles. aroma has caramel malt, spice, vanilla, sweetness, and some light minerals. mouth feel is medium light and slight frothiness at the sides of the tongue saving it from becoming thin. has a spicy malt flavor with some hops coming through mid sip bringing in some bitterness. finish follows through with malt and light bitters. actually quite drinkable and held up well for being brewed probably six months ago.

bottle. pours murky light brown, head fades away quickly. aroma of spices and vanilla. flavor is sweet, light roasted grains, mild bitter. the fruity sweetness and spice make a strange combination that reminds me of bubblegum. doesn’t really work for me. re-rate: ugh. couldn’t finish the last one. took one sip and poured it. just a gross combination of flavors.
