COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Each year, when people are starting to unpack their winter clothes and replenish their firewood, our tiny brewery in the coastal redwoods of Northern California makes seasonal preparations of a different kind. As the cold arrives, we release a unique beverage created to add warmth to even the coldest and darkest of winter's days. Winter Solstice Seasonal Ale begins with a very high original gravity to create a hearty and spicy brew with a deep amber hue and a smooth finish. Anderson Valley Brewing Company wishes you the very best for the holiday season and the New Year.

UPDATED: NOV 14, 2012 Smells very malty, caramel, sweet milk chocolate and kinda nutty. Taste is mostly artificial chocolate flavor up front that fades to more of a nuttiness on the mid thru the finish. Not much hop aroma or flavor at all, but the beer is pretty well balanced. The high carbonation keeps this beer pretty drinkable. A nice departure from the standard hoppy winter ales.

Sample at a Systembolaget tasting. The smell reminds me of pumpkin beers with some vanilla. Similar taste but not as sweet as I expected from the smell. I like it.

Flavors of vanilla and allspice come together in a balanced, clean and creamy way. Not over the top. Little bitterness. Very drinkable. I want another...

This one poured a cloudy, deep amber colour with very little head, even after a vigorous pour. Scents include rum, ripe fruit, brown sugar and cooked veggies. First sip was smooth with flavours of tea and spice. Slightly sweet with a very light bitter finish.

Pours a dark amber with a thin off white head. Aroma is full of caramel and malt. Taste is a little slick in the mouth with a ton of caramel and malt. What a nice sweet beer for the winter.

"this is a pretty basic ale, which keeps me from rating it higher, but it is thoroughly enjoyable. it’s got a decent look (medium-amber in color, an inviting slightly spicy aroma...a little thin on the body, highly carbonated tickly mouthfeel (good in a light beer...so-so in a winter ale). what saves it is the smooth finish and strong malty vanilla follow through."
