COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Regular.
NOTE: The bottled version (at 4.6%) has a separate listing.
This Pale Ale takes its name from the castle built by King John in 1207 less than 1 mile from the brewery, and from where he rode out to Runnymeade to sign the Magna Carta. The beer itself is deep amber in colour with a blend of pale ale and crystal malt, the bitterness and fruity aroma are developed from a combination of hops.

Cask (gravity dispense) at Woodies Beer Festival, New Malden on 21 August 2010. Attractive clear reddish copper colour. Loose off-white head. Good condition. Lots of berry fruit throughout. A touch woody. Moderate earthy hop presence. Maybe a very slight lactic edge. Solid traditionally styled bitter with the emphasis on fruity malt. Well balanced and very drinkable.

[Cask at the Allied Arms, Reading] Poured an unusual copper red with a negligible white head and astonishing clarity. Too clear for a cask ale really, it somehow didn’t feel quite right!. No carbonation. Sweet and very fruity malt initially is soon taken over by a conflicting strong, dusty hop bitterness that fails to add anything to the beer. Drinkable, but poor. c7
