Ok, I’ve got to sneak one more non-pale-lager in before I do this "pale lager month" thing. The beer pours an opaque black color with a medium, tight, tan head that leaves some lace. The aroma is big on chocolate and roasty coffee tones, some earthiness and oakiness are in there as well, this smells really appealing. The flavor is really pretty dry with a good deal of roasty and dark chocolate bitterness. There is a burnt (borderline ashy) flavor that I don’t always like in my porters, but it works about as well here as I could imagine. I’m a little bit put off by a salty green olive flavor that lingers in the background, but that & the thin mouth feel are the only things I particularly don’t like about the beer. This makes two perfectly enjoyable, infection free, clean tasting beers from this brewery.... Not bad for my neck of the woods.
