Our Cider House Collection #1: For centuries Farmhouse Cider making has been a tradition celebrated by farmers in the English and French countryside. Strawman combines a distinct blend of juices from traditional culinary and bittersweet apples, which is then aged in oak. The result is a full-flavored, complex and balanced cider with wine-like characteristics, rounded out by apple and citrus notes. Its lingering, earthy finish is a homage to the origins of this unique cider.

Bottle (75 cl) from Systembolaget. Clear amber, brief head. Soft mature apple aroma, some wood, some alcohol in the finish. Meidum bodied, medium to high carbonation. Dry with medium acidity. Would be very good with loewr alcohol.

This was poured into a pint glass and a wine glass. The appearance was the same in both glasses: glossy yellow color with streams of carbonation seen rising. The smell had some tart apples with a strong vinous like quality. Light straw/hay like quality running underneath. The taste was exactly the same. On the palate, this one sat about a light on the body with a sessionability that is mediocre as that harshness is slightly overbearing and too vinous. Overall, what a waste of money. Haha, glad I didn’t pay for it. These vinous ciders are just not that great. Strike out.

750 ml bottle poured a clear orange amber with a lasting amber head. Aromas of apples, straw, peach and light oak. Palate was light bodied and crisp with a dry finish. Flavors of apples, straw, light peach and light oak with a crisp dry lingering apple finish.

5/16/13. 750mL bottle given to me by Aunt Sally. She told me this was a good cider and I informer her and her friends that this was impossible because of the label and the oak used. Oak is used in the making of dark red wines which are not good, so this can’t possibly be good. Anyway, it pours a hazy dark burnt orange with a small creamy khaki head that cuts to a fuzzy ring but remains. Yeasty, cidery, aroma, tart apples, Champagne yeast, acidic white wines. Tart flavor punches at first sip, cidery, green apple tartness, yeasty, apple juice, more white wine. Seems to be trying too hard to be strong. Meh. Take that, Aurelius!

Clear amber with minimal head. Faint nose of apples, vanilla, oak and flowers? Taste is sour apples, oak, vanilla and just a little tar. Bubbly, sticky and dry. Alcohol very well hidden. Really easy to drink.

Sampled after the Microfest run. Quite hazy orange gold. Tart apples with some maltiness behind the apple. A nicedrink after a run.

Bottle. Poured hazy pale color with an average head that diminished slowly with fair lacing. Medium floral apple aroma. Medium body with a smooth sparkling texture and soft carbonation. Medium tart apple flavor with a medium tart finish of moderate duration. Solid drinkable refreshing beverage. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

This cider made me sad, with such a price tag and somewhat anticipation, it just reminded me of an apple flavored chardonnay. The aroma was bright and promising though; lots of vanilla-ish oak, leaves, apples and slight toffee. I just wished for something more - perhaps a controlled fermentation would have yielded more sweetness and/or body.

Thanks to Harold for this one. Nose is dry, crisp apples. Apple juice. Not much else. Pour is lightly hazy straw colored. Flavor is very dry, old apple juice. It’s ok.

750ml bottle, corked. Orange label, scarecrow. Dark amber pour. Aroma of ripened apples, some wood. Smells like a well made, barrel-aged cider. Tastes dry. Flavor of bruised apples, crisp notes. Finishes clean and dry. With the same ABV as Iceman, I enjoyed this one much more! (3997)
