COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Cider House Collection #1: For centuries Farmhouse Cider making has been a tradition celebrated by farmers in the English and French countryside. Strawman combines a distinct blend of juices from traditional culinary and bittersweet apples, which is then aged in oak. The result is a full-flavored, complex and balanced cider with wine-like characteristics, rounded out by apple and citrus notes. Its lingering, earthy finish is a homage to the origins of this unique cider.

Wasn’t sure what to expext. The taste is sort of mature apple with a definite wine component. Caramel and toffee notes. Very enjoyable.

This is a very different cider compared to the rest of Angry Orchard’s current line up. It honestly runs more like a wine. It’s flavor is very deep, rich, roasty, and a wonderful bitter aftertaste - It’s not sweet at all running similar to some of the English ciders. It pours in a lot darker color more towards the orange side :)

[Bottle] Sampled at Cider Summit Chicago 2015. Light amber pour with a fizzy white head on top. Nose is of barnyard notes, apples and some straw. Flavors of apples, white grapes, musty yeast notes and noticeable alcohol. Dry and scrumpy. Not my favorite.

Bottle. Pours a orange gold with a minimal white head. Aroma of apples and oak. Flavor of tart crisp apples, oak and was lightly acidic.

Bottle. Pours a hazy orange with a near white head that dissipates quickly to the edges. Aroma has a good amount of musty apple with some growing sweetness and a hint of oak. Flavor starts slightly sweet but quickly transforms into dry and earthy apples with an oaky backing.

Pours cloudy straw with a short-lived white head diminishing rapidly to a thin cap, no lacing. (3/5) Nose is sour apple and funky yeast, grapes and oak. (8/10) Taste is mild sweet, moderate bitter, mild oaky vinous funk. (8/10) Medium body, fizzy carbonation, short dry finish. (4/5) Quite a bit better than I was expecting, actually, given my last Angry Orchard cider - a "Crisp Apple" that really wasn’t. Crisp, I mean - it was apple, for sure. This, on the other hand, is crisp. And apple. And funky. And vinous. And oaky. And really a fair bit of fun. (15/20)

THOUGHTS: I haven’t had many ciders, but still, never had a cider this tart – and very few beverages in general that were this tar. Alcohol was fairly well hidden. A cider for sour beer fans. Sort of right in between a sour beer and a champagne. Wow! It really sneaks up on you, too. TECHNICAL: Drank 5/4/2013. Bottle. Poured a fairly clear, light orange with a small, fizzy, off-white head that fully diminished. The aroma had a hint of funky yeast that grew as it warmed; white grape, apple, white wine, slight wood; slight alcohol; and sour apple. The initial flavor was lightly sweet and heavily acidic; while the finish was slightly to lightly sour and moderately sweet and acidic. There was apple, white wine, champagne, granny smith apples, sour apples, some wood, very tart apples, other sour fruit like lemons; ever-so-slight funk, and tannins. The nearly medium body was extremely dry with fizzy carbonation and a moderately astringent and slightly alcoholic finish.

Bottle (75 cl) from Systembolaget. Clear amber, brief head. Soft mature apple aroma, some wood, some alcohol in the finish. Meidum bodied, medium to high carbonation. Dry with medium acidity. Would be very good with loewr alcohol.
