Dark and hazy. Light molasses, dark sugars, light fruitiness and a soft body. Dates, raisins and fruitcake. Great dark malt character here, and very nice balance.

Cask gravity, Coventry 2011. Liquorice-coloured with ruby winks and a fine khaki halo. Wow; ink, marmite-smeared aubergine and smoked almond aroma. Light bodied but deep with peaty interest, grilled vegetables, barbecue and wee dram notes. Beautiful, soft, nuanced beer. At Leicester and Cov, stick to the Scottish stuff- ye cannae go wrong with it.

Bottled. Deep ambery brown colour with a small beige head. Aroma is roasted malts, figs, nutty, mild marzipan as well as mild dry dark fruity notes. Flavour is leathery, roasted malty along with some liquorice, fruits, wood and raisins. Rather bodied for a 4.4 % beer.

On cask at the Scottish Real Ale Festival, 2012. Pours a very dark brown colour with a fair tan head. Aroma of chocolate, roasty malt, caramel and alcohol. Similar flavours with moderate carbonation and an oily mouth-feel. A lovely dry finish.

Cask conditioned at Minehead Beer Fest í12. Black with cream head. Plenty going on with this stout, some baked vegetable notes but with a rich, saucy type note, then a hoppy bitterness, drying, chalky. Very pleasant.

Bottle from Dunnottar Wine and Spirits. It pours very dark cloudy brown, with a thin beige head. The nose is roasted malt, coffee, blackberry, blueberry, light sourness and berry yoghurt. The taste caramel, roasted malt, light coffee, ash, assertive fruitiness, blueberry, blackcurrant, blackberry, jam, berry yoghurt, raisin, some sourness and a hint of vinegar in the background. Medium body, fine carbonation and foamy mouth-feel. Not sure if this turned out exactly as planned, but I found it to be rather delicious!

Cask-conditioned at the Minehead Beer Festival, 8/09/2012. Near black with a slight, tan head. Aroma of tart, dark fruits, decent roasted malts and a hint of milk chocolate. Full flavoured, with some prominent and tangy fruits, cereal malts and dryish finish. Very good.
