UPDATED: NOV 22, 2014 "Taste the Indian summer in your glass" says the label of this beer, originally brewed for the Mechelen-based Beer Brothers, since 2003 (and at the beginning only from tap). Bock beers are a rarity in Belgian beer culture (contrary to the Netherlands) and the few ones that have been produced, were simply Belgian ales that have little to do with the ’real’ bock tradition in either the Netherlands or Germany. This one displays a thick, yellowish, nicely lacing, creamy head and a brownish bronze colour, dark but still transparent, yet cloudy after adding the ’fond’. Quite rich and sweet nose of cacao powder, candied dates, cloves, madera wine, banana, cinnamon, coffee liqueur, candi syrup, ginger, bayleaf; taste less sweet than expected based on the aroma, even a lightly sourish accent, dark fruits, smooth maltiness, a bit sticky, toasted coffeeish bitterness in the end with warming alcohol. The kinship with the famed Gouden Carolus Classic is obvious.

On tap in a 25 cl. glass @ Robert’s Pub, Veenendaal with Niek. Dark brown with a beige head. Roasted malts and caramel. Not as bitter as most good bocks but certainly not too sweet either. Slight Belgian yeast undertone. Good bock.
