COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

UPDATED: MAY 31, 2010 Tasted with Maltador. A very fine IPA, cleverly made. Lot of hops of course, but also nice mellowness on the back of the mouth. French hops bring tropical notes (mango) and sugar cane mellowness. Very tasty and bitter mouthfeel.

UPDATED: SEP 30, 2012 Bottle from Celliers des Arcades, Arras. Hazy gold with a small white cap. Aroma is very fruity and impressive hop presence, pears, banana, and lots of awesome peach. Flavour is even better, same fruity elements, but the sweetness is kept in check by the hop presence and the dry yeast character. Finishes well with lingering esters. Super enjoyable, I’ll have to pick up a 750mL bottle when I can. A simply awesome ’Belgian-style’ IPA.

Bottle in Paris. Cloudy, pale gold pour with a sturdy, white head. Very grassy aroma, with zesty lemon, hay, hints of grapefruit. Flavor is quite full, medium sweet with honey, bitter with rich grass, weeds, pine and citrus. Full in body with average carbonation. Pretty warm on the finish, zesty citrus, pear, faint metal, some yeast, tons of grassy hops and pine that sticks around. Excellent beer. Perhaps the best French beer I have yet had.

Botted 330ml. -Courtesy of Marko (thanks!), shared with heavy and him. Hazy yellow/golden coloured, medium sized white head, pleasant light agrumey nose. Moderate malty, flowery hoppy and agrumey taste with touch of green apple near the end. Really nice French IPA indeed, nice surprise.

Bottle from Roi du Potje Vleesch, Godewaersvelde. Hazy golden, lacing head. Very potent hop aroma, noticeable from quite a distance. It promises grass in big proportions. Sugary backdrop to grassy and slightly fruity hop flavours, all in abundance. Let me join the chorus of rejoice. The best French beer I have tasted to date, I think. Overshadows even the reliable Hommelbier just across the border.

Maltador (63) - Paris, FRANCE - MAY 28, 2010
UPDATED: SEP 12, 2010 A french IPA made with cascade and simcoe hops, but also with local hops. This is not an extreme IPA, it is beautifully balanced and well hopped. Just a touch of sugar comes alleviate bitterness and make the beer unctuous and incredibly persistent.

A good example of how north brewers of France can as talentful as belgian brewers.
