Sehr dunkelbraunes Bier mit geringer Schaumkrone. Geruch röstmalzig, süß, Karamell. Geschmack röstmalzig, muffig, leicht schokoladig, fruchtig.

750 ml. bottle sampled. Procured from the gift shop of La Coupole. Drank outside. Great label & “imperial smout” is a hillarious term, this sounds like a bad Chinese knock-off of “imperial stout”. Dark brown, creamy brown / beige head. Smells sour, tart & overripe wild red berries, charcoal, charred wood, roast, spoiled, smells like a bit on top like a beer that has been left outside to stand in a glass overnight. Tastes of overripe sour red berries, vinegar, charred & burned malts, actually tastes like coal, huge on ashes, coffee grounds, very lingering charcoal & ashes tastes. Body is that of an infected beer, hard to drink more than a few sips of. This isn’t good to simply put it, it wasn’t overly expensive but not the cheapest either & a total waste overall.

Very dark brown with dark brown lacing foam head. Aroma is coffee, some chocolate, some herbs. Taste nice bitter, coffee, some bread. Does not qualify for American Strong Ale, more a stout to me. Lasting bitter aftertaste. (Nantes 201402)

330 ml bottle. L13276. BB 01/2015. From saveur-biere.com.
Black colour with a small tan head. Chocolate, Coke, mild roasted malt and sugar in the aroma. The flavour is roasted malt, ash, mild coffee, sweetness, bitterish hops and liquorice. Not very tasty. A bit unbalanced but rich.

19.11.13 Bottled 330ml Saveur. Deep ruby color, small brown head, some lace. Nose has sweet licorice, perhaps a bit milky too. Medium-bodied. Licorice dominates first, then in the aftertaste tobacco, tar and ash. At least it is interesting, but too tobacco ashy for my liking.

0,33 l bottle. Pours dark, almost black with a nice head with brown notes. Also leaves nice lacings on the glass. Aroma has caramel, a bit of alcohol, sour candy. Taste is thick tar, liquorice caramel, a bit of sweet smokiness. Aftertaste is long and smokey bitter.

Bottle at home, 4th October 13. Tar, liquorice. Slightly too fizzy. OK stout, won’t be rushing back on this beast

Bottle from La Fine Mousse. Black with a rich, light brown head. Potent roasted coffee nose with hints of sweetness. Roasted coffee and caramel providing nice bitter-sweet balance. Very good.
