COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Keg & Bottled; Regular.
An historical brew, harking back to an era when barley was cured over open fires and beer was stored in oak.

Bottled 330ml (from the brewery)
Dark brown color, decent creamy beige head, some lace. Light smoke, light caramalt, light hops in the nose. Medium-bodied. Starts a bit smokey, then nuttyness, caramalt in the malty flavor. In the finish quite good bitterness. Not something I would drink regulary but well-brewed.

From my backlogg: Cask at Cask Pub&Kitchen, London 2014. Deep amber beer with an beige head. Roasted chocolate coffee vanilla smokey licorice aroma. Floral fruity chocolate caramell smokey flavour.

Bottle. Dark brown with an off white foam. Aromas are nutty weetabix with coffee and dark toffee. Raisins and blackberries with earthy, lightly smoky, meaty notes. Flavours are sweet dark berries with earthy coffee and nutty, gritty cocoa. Meaty and spicy with a dry finish. Good.

Bottle from Cornelius. Cloudy brown, thin tan head. Damp wood chips and bacon. Thin body, little fizz. Sweetish chocolate, charcoal. Short finish. Quite disappointing.

(Draught at Anspach & Hobday, Bermondsey, London, 25 Apr 2015) Reddish brown colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, slightly smoky nose with dark bread, peat and roasted nuts. Malty, smoky taste with notes of peat, dark bread, smoked ham and a balanced bitterness. More pronounced smoke on the palate than in the nose. Medium body, with a touch of sweetness. Tasty and interesting, with lots of peat and smoke. Quite nice.

Tap @A&H. Hazy brown, frothy light beige head. Light fruity smoke and malt aroma. Similar flavour, more caramel, light bitterness and lingering, discrete smoke. Not bad, but not impressive either.

HogTownHarry (6201) - Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, CANADA - MAR 12, 2015
London 2014 - September 6th, with harrisoni & Theydon_Bois - on draught, at the brewery in Bermondsey. At least I think it was on draught. Bright ruby/amber with a smallish but lasting off-white head. Simple but clean and appealing aroma of middling nutty roast and light campfire, bare alcohol presence. Taste follows, a touch of kerosene and some dry herbal bitterness for balance (7+). Light airy body, medium-quick dry slightly smoky finish - very drinkable indeed, just enough zing to the smoke to remind you it’s there.
