COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
You may have taken a draw of this Belgian brew in the past, during your afternoon "client relations" meetings at Brasserie Beck. The double blonde was developed with the help of some intense Belgian brewers (as if there’s any other kind) known as the Brouwerij De Musketiers, and it actually helped Thor Cheston, Beck’s beer director, get knighted by the beer guild in Brussels.

And now, for the first time, they’re bottling it. It comes in a 750ml version—complete with corks and wire cages—and, at this very minute, it’s on a ship approaching our shores, where it’s due to arrive any day (icebergs notwithstanding) for your closer-to-home client relations. When it gets here, expect something citrusy and yeasty, but a little less potent than your typical Belgian

Commissioned for Restaurants by Robert Wiedmaier.

Commissioned beer referring to the Antwerp legend of the giant Antigoon. Lightly hazy, tad peachy ’old gold’ colour with thick, dense, moussy, egg-white head. Aroma of gooseberries, freshly cut nettles, cucumber, bread dough, field flowers, green apple, biscuit, unripe pineapple, white pepper, peach, some bubblegum, some honey, some sweaty grains; in warming up, the better aspects of the aroma, in the form of sweetish fruits and very floral hops, begin to dominate. Crisp, spritzy onset of green and sourish fruits, apple, white grape, redcurrant, with a honeyish sweetness underneath, fizzy carbo, light and supple mouthfeel, lemon peel accent for freshness, lightly bready malts, lean and sweetish, ending in a yeasty-bready-earthy and florally hop bittering finish, a bit spicy and resiny, quenching and balancing, with some lingering malt sweetishness though the hop bitterness remains longer. Crisp, not unpleasant blonde, nothing out of the ordinary by any means but enjoyable, with not too many flaws and good balance between dry and sweet, though admittedly I expected a bit more from it since it’s Musketeers...

The beers pours a beautiful rich layer of soar white foam. The color is golden yellow. Very nice looks. The foam is very bitter with a metal aftertaste. This forms a nice contrast with the beer, this is sweet and rich. The smell has the same biter and slightly metal aroma’s of the foam, because this forms a tight layer on the beer. The taste of the golden deliciousness is good. Sweet, alcohol taste and a almond/nutty hint.

330mL bottle from the International Beer Collector - BB 27/08/17 Love the label! Had a bit of a chuckle when first seeing it. The beer is a hazy blonde number, solid white cap. Aroma is subtle - doughy, slightly pepper, even a touch cheesy, some light stonefruitiness in the works. Sits nicely on the palate, good weight, lively creamy sort of carbonation. Good measure of toasty, doughy malt on the body. Notes of pepper, citrus, apricot, grass follow. Bitterness is quite high, dry, slightly warming finish. Nothing outstanding, balance a touch off, but a reasonable beer.
