You don’t see feijoas in Canada much, but I happen to have tried them prior to coming to New Zealand. I’ve never had a feijoa fruit beer though! This one pours exactly as a ginger ale soda, clear soft golden with a fizzy head that is gone within 10s. Wow this smells like feijoa rind all the way! For someone unfamiliar, it is a liitle like a combo of crushed nettles, unripened fieldberries, and cat pee all in one. Flavour also is very much of unsweetened (or in fact, unripened) feijoa. There is no easy comparison for someone unfamiliar with the fruit, but it is quite tart (bordering sour), and reminiscent of a geuze lambic. I also find that it brings to mind cloudberries that are sometimes used in Scandanavian cuisine. Rather thin mouthfeel, and a very short dry finish. Very interesting indeed!

Bottle courtesy of yalnikim. I found the aroma a little musty, but the feijoa comes through very strongly on the palate. I like the dryness. And I love feijoas!

Couldn’t really get my around this one. The ’fruit’ is quite tart and citrus like but there is a clear malt underlay’ something almost approaching a Czech pilsner. Didn’t really hang together as I thought the tartness just poked out to much.

Bottle 330ml. Nice fruit beer. Aroma is citrusy, and tart. Taste is sweet and slightly sour, with short duration. Thin body, and fizzy palate. Yellow colour, with a head that disappears.

330ml bottle - clear straw yellow with a cider like appearance. Dry armpits waft from the feijoa fruit with a touch of almost menthol cigarettes feel about it. Palate is very thin and refreshing - crisp with the fruit character lingering at the finish. To the uninitiated it would almost be a spritzer or cider than beer but interesting none the less.

Smells like a margarita, pours yellow green and has a sour flavour and that is it. Not a winner, not a winner at all.

Pours yellow with white head. Aroma is mainly Fejioa, with a bit of malt there. Taste is quite bitter, like a geuze. Of course the flavour is mainly fejioa fruit, has a good malt base to it. Most interesting beer Mata makes.

Clear gold pour with a stiff white head leaving heavy lace. Feijoa and citrus hop nose. Light body with moderate carbonation. Lemon, feijoa, bread, lime zest. Decent and unique, but far from a top fruit beer.
