austinpowers (2828), New York, New York, USA Jun 23, 2007 Updated: Aug 17, 2007 Apis has trumped themselves, producing an even better mead than the legendary Apis Jadwiga Poltorak. Honey notes (duh) - actually, more than notes - the flavor is thick, treacly, like a rich mead bursting with complexity - flavors of raisins, cognac and sweet sherry. Absolutely stunning. Comes in the same basket-covered bottle that Jadwiga comes in, but the Lubelski costa about US $5 more. IMHO, this is Johnny Walker Blue label to Jadwiga’s Johnny Walker Gold label.
Specifically, the Lubelski has less alcohol on the nose and palate when rated side by side with the Jadwiga. Otherwise, their fruit flavorings are essentiallly identical (to me, at least).
gunnfryd (2743), Kristiansand, Norway Apr 15, 2008 Bottle, thx to the wolf. Dark golden colour with no head. Aroma is sweet, honey, heathe, alcohol. Flavour is sweet, honey, heather, sugar. OK mead. yngwie (3602), Kristiansand, Norway Apr 6, 2008 Bottle, thx to thewolf. Pours a clear, golden body with no head. Quite oily. Alcohol, sweetness, honey and hints of heather in the aroma. The flavor is sweet, with warming alcohol, honey and a little heather. Oily, full-bodied mouthfeel. The finish is long with sweetness and honey. A beautiful mead, just like the other Apis meads I’ve had, but this one was a bit on the sweet side. (080301) dunkpigen (283), Kolding, Denmark Mar 9, 2008 Tasting at thewolf. Pours a beautiful orange and has a nice lacing. Has a sweet aroma and a hint of viniousness. Flavour is very sweet, and oily. Has powerful taste of walnuts, honey and some viniousness. JensenTaster (1485), Denmark Mar 3, 2008 (on bottle, thanx to thewolf) Ambercolor and no head. Serious alcoholaroma, get´s almost burning and plum-like. Fat mouthfeel, the sugars and alcohol really heats up and leaves little room for any tasteindicators, aside from that thick and luxurious honey. thewolf (3959), Kolding, Denmark Mar 2, 2008 Bottle @ thewolf tasting.
[thank you Aga]
Pours a very nice coppery-golden with no head. Aroma is soft, sweet, honey, flowers and viniousness. Oily mouthfeel. Flavour is very soft, sticky, honey, flowers and nuts. Light caramel as well. Godd, soft and round.
