3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Apocalypse 6th Seal Chocolate Stout. Serving: Draft at MacDowell Brew Kitchen. It pours a very dark brown with a brown head. Lots of roasted malt and chocolate in the nose. Velvety smooth on the tongue with a touch of sweetness and lots of roasted malt. Slight nuttiness on the back end. I’m not sure what some of you are drinking. This is a solid stout.

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Draft at Fireworks Leesburg. Pours coca cola brown with a thin khaki head. Big chocolate on the nose. The chocolate tastes a bit burned on the tongue. There’s definitely some lactose but it fades quickly. Finishes clean but thin on the tongue. Eh!

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Draft: Walnut and roasted malt nose. Black pour, headless. Sweet walnut, barely perceptible chocolate. Soft carbonation. A bit cloying. This brewery’s offerings run a bit sweet for my taste, but they’ve got chops.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Draft at the brewery This stout poured a deep black with tan head. There was some chocolate, coffee and roasted malt on the nose. Another patron said this was the best of the brewery. It was excellent with a nice medium body and soft carbonation. The chocolate malt flavor and toffee were delicious. The taste does have a richness that is very special. The finish was smooth with rich chocolate at the end.

4.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
This is really a wonderful stout. Hugely malty with enormous chocolate flavors from the vast amounts of cacao nibs used. There is also orange peel in this brew, but it is difficult to taste until it warms up, This is best drank around 50 F. Another perfectly balanced and delicious brew from Apocalypse. Thomas Jefferson would be proud.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
I had this on tap at Buffalo Wild Wings in Lynchburg. It was very good and went well with the food. To my way of thinking it’s more like a porter than a stout, it’s somewhat thin and not very complex, but the chocolate malt flavor is delicious. It’s very dark, and there is a little coffee and chocolate in the aroma, and the taste is rich and smooth. Lots of chocolate. The finish is mild.
