On draught at brewpub. Pours a light brown color with a very thick tan head. Medium body. Big phenolic flavors dominate the dark and wheat malts. Dark malt offers a dry character and wheat does not soften the palate. Overall, too coarse.

Dark amber pour with a moderate haze and a khaki head. A nice sweet nose of cola, toffee, and caramel. A hint of tart plum, too. Light chocolate and a fair amount of toasted bread. The flavor is fairly sweet with the same cola, caramel, and chocolate notes. A bit of toasted bread, lots of dark fruit, prune juice, and a mild tartness of underripe plum.

On tap. Pours a cloudy orangey brown with a creamy beige head. Lightly tart nose, overripe fruit and nuts. Rich body, soft carbonation, sweet overripe fruit, lightly fusty with some late banana notes and even balsamico. Appears a little oxidized. Subdued bitterness with a whiff of roasted malt. Fairly rustic - has a Scotch Ale feel to it. 080912
