Draught. High lasting creamy off-white head. Clear very dark brown body. Caramel coffee butter aroma. Mild sweet heavily carbonated roasted malt flavor with liquorice. Short aftertaste.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 Ungstrup (23917) - Oamaru, NEW ZEALAND - DEC 31, 2008
Draft. March version listed at 5.9% ABV, November version listed at 6.8% ABV. Rating goes for the November version, scores for March version: 6/4/6/3/13=3.2. A dark red-brown beer with a thin brown head. The aroma is sweet with notes of licorice and malt as well as light notes of roasted malt, straw, and a bit of acidity. The flavor is very sweet with extremely powerful licorice notes - too much for me, also notes of ammoniac and light notes of caramel. Like liquid licorice. In my book not a porter since the hardest roasted malt is caramunich and the color is from extensive use of food coloring.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 ThomasE (5176) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - APR 2, 2008
Reddish, brown colour with a beige head. Light roasted malty aroma with a clear liqourice note. Light roasted and caramel sweet flavor again with a clear liqourice note. Light roasted bitter finish.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Papsoe (22946) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - MAR 5, 2008
(On tap) Opaque orangey brown with a fine, creamy, beige head. Aroma is distinct, sweet licorice and a little roasted malt. Medium body, a little low in carbonation with sweet notes of roasted malt and burned caramel - almost like a Danish table beer. And then again loads of licorice. The finish is fairly dry although the bitterness is discreet. Not bad. 030308
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 yespr (22161) - Copenhagen O, DENMARK - FEB 19, 2008
UPDATED: FEB 6, 2011 RB DK #1100: From tap at the brewpub, 5.9% as Apollo Lakrids Bryg. Pours dark brown with a little dense brown head. Thick dry liqourice nose. Light body. Flavour is somewhat thinner first than expected but the liqourice builds up to a quite solid dry finish. Lingering liqourice, light acidity and mild bitterness in the finish. Somewhat simple, but I’m a sucker for liqourice in beer.5-3-7-3-13=3.1
