Salmoniform (1078) - Sweet Home, Oregon, USA - JAN 22, 2015
Poured from bottle to glass. Hazy brown hue with creamy tan head that settled. Aroma is rye, toffee, yeasty, mineral. Mouthfeel Is ok with a medium body and light carbonation. Taste is dry sweet with a spicy mineral finish. Overall this is an interesting brew.

Pours a slightly hazy dark amber with a hint of garnet. World class head volume and retention, but almost no lacing. Light nose of molasses and burnt sugar over a slight note of spice with a hint of prune. Very light medium body with a bit of smooth texture. Above normal carbonation with a bit of effervescence in the middle and a nice burst in the finish. The flavor profile is reasonably intense (but picks up as it warms), somewhat balanced but lacks the complexity of the nose. It begins with mild rye, then flows into a mild spicy bitterness. In the middle a hint of sweetness comes through as the bitterness fades. The finish is a slow fade that ends with a slightly sour burnt nut off flavor. In short, a disappointment.

500ml bottle. Nose is sweet and malty, Munich-type with a little spice and fruit, phenols; pours deep red-brown with a rocky tan head. Taste is tart with very little bitterness, a touch grainy, sweet but not sugary, more cloy from the clove phenols. Light berry, dash of spice, body is full but also somehow watery. A confusing mix, drinkable but not terribly well done (or hasn’t survived the trip well).

Pour is a dark brown with a large tan head. Lots of floating things as well. Aroma is some caramel malt with black bread. Flavor is a decent spicy grain with some nuttiness. Finish is thin with more of the dark bread left on the tongue. Decent little beer here. Probably a good example of a taste from the old world of brewing. Now 13 ratings and none from Germany?

Pours deep, cloudy mahogany. Mocha head with medium retention recedes to skim surface. Dark pumpernickel and molasses aromas. Soft with sourdough and pumpernickel upfront turning to dark molasses before the medium length pit fruit finish.

12/30/2013. 500 ml. bottle. Dark brown with a tiny tan head. Almost no carbonation. Malty and some sour and metallic flavors. Far from my favorite beer.

Bottle from Eureka North Coast Co-op. Pour hazy dark coppery amber with a yellowish tan head. Aroma is either cola or lightly spicy roast malt. Med body. Flavor is rye. Mild spiciness. Certainly not sweet. A bit off dry. Pretty good beer - might be unique.

My first Roggenbier! Aroma: Pretty straightforward with rye spiciness, but also some toasted/roasted character that resembles coffee or maybe toasted rye/pumpernickel bread. Appearance: Murky dark copper/brown pour with bubbly tan head. Flavor: Rye/toast/light coffee character with a little lemony character towards the finish (Tettnang?); fruity esters really show up as the beer warms, some apple or pear character. Palate: Light body, slick texture, flat carbonation, long finish. Overall: Interesting drinking experience for sure. Worth a try.
