3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
From WLVL. First true Roggenbier so I have nothing to compare it against. However it was tasty enough to want to try more. Opaque reddish brown. Some of the aroma and flavor of a hefeweizen but much less banana. Rye flavor and aroma. Not very carbonated. Slippery mouth feel. Serving: bottle

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle from Eureka North Coast Co-op. Pour hazy dark coppery amber with a yellowish tan head. Aroma is either cola or lightly spicy roast malt. Med body. Flavor is rye. Mild spiciness. Certainly not sweet. A bit off dry. Pretty good beer - might be unique.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
My first Roggenbier! Aroma: Pretty straightforward with rye spiciness, but also some toasted/roasted character that resembles coffee or maybe toasted rye/pumpernickel bread. Appearance: Murky dark copper/brown pour with bubbly tan head. Flavor: Rye/toast/light coffee character with a little lemony character towards the finish (Tettnang?); fruity esters really show up as the beer warms, some apple or pear character. Palate: Light body, slick texture, flat carbonation, long finish. Overall: Interesting drinking experience for sure. Worth a try.

2.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20
Ar: Rich toasted malt, mineral, peppery crackers.
Ap: Deep amber-brown - clear - medium light tan head with good retention, leaves a small but solid cap of foam.
T: Some toasted malt, sour bite - acidic background flavor really takes over.
P: Medium-light body with medium-high carbonation - comes off as sort of flabby and watery.
O: A lot of promise in the nose, but this beer has some odd sourness going on, and the palate is really weak and watery.

Bottle. Caramel, barley/rye malt aroma. Cloudy brown with small head. Mildly sweet orange-caramel and rye malt flavor. Good - malt a bit subdued.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
50cl bottle I picked up at Arrowine. Pours a very hazy, nearly opaque, caramel amber with some thick, off white head. Nose has bread, raisin, prune, some yeast, a little bit of brown sugar, some ripened pear. Flavor follows suit, a bit more fruit than the nose has, pear, apple, raisin, prune, a little soggy bread but alot less breadiness than the nose lets on. Clean finish. Very drinkable.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours a dark mahogany brown color with a big three finger bubbly eggshell foam. The nose is wicked forest floor, earthy, moss, cedar, spicy rye and wheat bread. The palate is thinner than expected with spicy cola notes, earthy black tea, tight bubbles quick finish... traces of fishiness in the linger but very drinkable.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Hazy, easty pour with a smallish head. The smell is bread, paint, nuts. Flavor is very dry, it has peppery spice notes, coin, very savory. Not sure I’m a huge fan of this one.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle. Label shows Apostelbräu Roggen and along the bottom "Historic-Roggen-Beer". This is imported by B. United. Very dark brown pour with a short tan head. Aroma is dark bread, toasted malt and soft rye notes. Taste is surprisingly sweet with toasted dark bread notes, sweet malt, rye notes, caramel and soft yeast. Body is light-medium with a light, bubbly carbonation. Ends with more bready notes, rye, sweet malt, caramel, yeast and light fruity notes.
