COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
ABC’s American Black IPA is moderately roasty in flavor with a nice hoppy finish. Do not let the color fool you; this beer is dark with a chocolaty flavor but light in body and character. Our use of Zeus hops and Nugget hops gives this beer a perfect balance of roast and hop flavor and aroma. OG 15, FG: 2.8, AW: 5.0, ABV: 6.5, IBUs: 80

This is a pretty solid IPA from ABC. It pours a dark brown color with a modest tan head. The head doesn’t leave much lacing around the glass, though. The nose is nicely balanced with sweet malts and a bit of hops, along with some hints of caramel, bread and chocolate. The flavors and body are also well-balanced, with a nice texture of sweet malt, with more chocolate and caramel notes, along with some rye bread, earth, oranges and dry hops.

UPDATED: MAY 22, 2011 Pours dark brown with just the slightest glints of deep ruby from bright lights. Lighter bodied than the Pennypacker Porter. Flavor is a moderate caramel sweetness up front with a mild burnt roastiness in the finish. Tastes earthy, with sap, earth, and spicy grasses in the hop profile. Melts into the hoppy end of the porter category, in part due to the excellent caramel flavor up front, but this is great, it makes it drinkable. Just for the record, the maltiness here is different than the Pennypacker where there is more of a clean sweetness with chocolaty flavors blended in.
