3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
on tap in gettysburg...
pours a dark coffee color with an initial off white head which fades to still.
the aroma is quite vinous and rich... fruit/prunes/grapes, nuttiness-like coffee, caramel and roasty grain.
the palate is a touch sweet but spice, alcohol and a mild bitter finish help it out immensely. flavors of vanilla, red wine, candied nuts, coffee and lots of dark roast in between.
the body is medium as alcohol thins it to make it dangerous.
well put together stuff! 7/4/7/4/16/3.8

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Sampled from a growler thanks to Joeec for bringin this one, thanks Joe. Pours a deep dark brown with only a slight hint of head. Aroma has large choclate notes, raisin, doughy grain and a good dose of alcohol. Full bodied with light carbonation. Flavor of chocolate, dark fruit, grain and alcohol. A good beer but that caramel, toffee flavor was missing to be calling this one a barley wine.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
This poured a dark red to brown color with a small off white head. Aroma was lots of slightly roasted malts, sweetness, and some dried dark fruit too. Flavor up front was sticky sweet, a bit fruity and spicey with a slight roastiness to it. Alcohol is a little apparent but still hidden pretty well for how strong this one is.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Tap at Hop Devil Grill: This stuff pours near black with a khaki ring for head. The aroma is striking. Thick, chocolatey, full of berry-like fruityness (raspberries). As it warms the hops become more evident, with a touch of maple. This is a rich Barley Wine. Great mouthfeel, thick and chewy. The flavor is huge, both chocolatey and fruity. There’s definitly berry notes of raspberries and elderberries. Dark rich roasty malts give off loads of stuff like tobacco, dark chocolate, roasted toffee, with a late coffee hint. Stuff has a boozey quality, but the alcohol is damn smooth. Toasty maple suggestions, with an evident hop dryness in the roasty finish that also has residual warming roastyness from the malt. A complex and outstanding Barley Wine.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
12oz bottle pours a deep, opaque almost black, thin off white head. Nose is malty, crackers, biscuit. Flavor is sweet, malty, cookie dough, caramel, light burnt toast. Full bodied, sweet finish which is a touch hot. A barleywine that’s completely malt forward. This was a 2009 bottle that could definitely go another year or so.
