Commercial Description:
Our Barley Wine is dark red in color and has an original gravity of 1.120 (24 Plato). The malt complexity of this classic ale style is incredible. The Broad Street Market is located just blocks from the Appalachian Brewing Company. This indoor farmers market was built in 1863 and is one of the oldest continuously operating farmers markets in the United States. The beautiful brick façade and natural wood doors are typical of the structures in Downtown Harrisburg; including our own building.

Tap at Hop Devil Grill: This stuff pours near black with a khaki ring for head. The aroma is striking. Thick, chocolatey, full of berry-like fruityness (raspberries). As it warms the hops become more evident, with a touch of maple. This is a rich Barley Wine. Great mouthfeel, thick and chewy. The flavor is huge, both chocolatey and fruity. There’s definitly berry notes of raspberries and elderberries. Dark rich roasty malts give off loads of stuff like tobacco, dark chocolate, roasted toffee, with a late coffee hint. Stuff has a boozey quality, but the alcohol is damn smooth. Toasty maple suggestions, with an evident hop dryness in the roasty finish that also has residual warming roastyness from the malt. A complex and outstanding Barley Wine.

Growler thanks to Joeec5. Dark brown color with a small tan head. Aroma of dark roasted malts, chocolate and a bit of brown sugar. Nice roasty flavor with a bit of char, lots of dark chocolate and some lactic sourness. Alcohol very well hidden. More porterish than BWish, but tasty nevertheless.

Sampled from a growler thanks to Joeec for bringin this one, thanks Joe. Pours a deep dark brown with only a slight hint of head. Aroma has large choclate notes, raisin, doughy grain and a good dose of alcohol. Full bodied with light carbonation. Flavor of chocolate, dark fruit, grain and alcohol. A good beer but that caramel, toffee flavor was missing to be calling this one a barley wine.

Growler, thanks to the crew at Dmac’s for bringing this one. Pours out dark brown with a small fading head, sweet/alcoholic nose. Taste is complex, alcohol content is well hidden. Sweet fruits, some chocolate and earthy notes in there also with a decent amount of hops. Interesting

Dark brown/black body with a small tan head. The nose is toffee, dark fruit, pine and citrus. The flavor is sweet, moderately bitter with lots of caramel/toffee, resinous pine, light citrus, prunes and raisins. Full body is sticky with moderate carbonation.

On tap in Gettysburg. Poured very dark brown with small white head. Nose of fruit and sweet malt. Flavor was sweet with flavors of fruit, molasses, and finished with bittering hops. Nice and unexpected during my trip to PA.
