3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 jeffc666 (1984) - Fairfax, USA - JUL 16, 2006
Oak-aged Version - Very dark cola brown that works upa decent tan head that vanishes all too quickly. Sour oak and sweet. Chcocalte and coffee flavors add to the alreday dark color in making one think of an Imperial Stout. Very light on the hops with vinous notes. Thin watery body that is most unexpected. Certainly interesting but too much of a mish-mash in the end.

They did a decent job on this one. It’s a bit watery, but a nice caramel malt, toffee and fruit presence can be detected.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20 Homebrewerguy (299) - Oil City, Pennsylvania, USA - JUN 16, 2011
Bottled Nov. 2008: Wow, pours deep red with an intense roasty, pruny nose, a lasting head and lacing to the end, the heaviest BW that I have ever had with a chewy palate, flavors of raisin & roast malts dominate, some sweetness balanced by an adequate hop bite at the finish. Noticeable alcohol burn and flavor, perhaps too much.
