COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This amber ale is dosed with cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and fresh orange zest. It is well balanced with low hop flavor and nice hint of the spices in the finish. This spiced ale is not overbearing; rather it is smooth and very drinkable.

Pours deep amber into the glass, with an initially foamed head that thins out to nothing except a tiny ring of bubbles to the fringe. The nose is of pie spices, with heavy nutmeg and Allspice. Medium-sweet malts meet cinnamon, nutmeg and pie spices, with a crisp, spicy finish. The mouthfeel is a bit thinner than expected for the flavors at work, or at least the palate feels a little too zesty with overactive carbonation levels. Not a huge detractor overall, as this is a nice change of pace, and enjoyable for the style. I could see myself enjoying one bomber per session, as much more might become a little cloying. Decent spice brew.

I love beer, but I hate this one. Smells like a funky pumpkin pie that has spoiled. Too much spices in the taste that overwhelms the mouth. Bad.

UPDATED: MAY 5, 2013 Pours the color of murky alternating from ruby to brown. Doesn’t have a very big head or leave any lacing. The aroma has faint spice notes but doesn’t last very long. The taste is also murky. Nothing stands out. It just congeals together like bad nachos.

Bottle to pint mason jar. Pours a dark brown with little head, and decent lacing. You can taste all the spices of nutmeg, and cinnamon easily. Has a decent mouthfeel, and isn’t as bad as I was expecting. Still, I’m just not a SHV fan.

On tap at the Gettysburg brewpub. Pours a clear ruby/amber with a small white head. Aroma of cinnamon and wintery spices, nutmeg. Flavor of cinnamon and nutmeg most prominent -- actually this beer is very reminiscent of a pumpkin ale (although there is no pumpkin flavor, just the spice profile). Very spicy but as the description promises, it’s plenty drinkable. Actually a very good holiday ale. 7/4/7/4/14 [3.6/5]

This was a holiday amber from App. Nice tones of nutmeg right off the bat. A little ginger to finish it off. I usually don’t like these kind of beers but it was tolerable.

Light amber with a forgettable off-white head. Aroma is of mild nutmeg. Nutmeg and cinnamon come through in the flavor (and perhaps even a bit of orange peel) but no perceptible ginger. Overall, it is much more watery than I was expecting from a holiday ale, and based on the accounts of other employees, this year’s rendition is even weaker than last year’s.

This poured a murky brown color with an off white head. Aroma was of somewhat roasted malts, nuts and some weak spices. Flavor was just a mess of spices, not melded well together at all with a sickening sweetness.

Blah. I’m not a fan of spiced beers any more. Aroma was good. Strong nutmeg and ginger. Pour was a nice enough dark gold with a one finger off white head. Taste was all spices with nothing else. Each spice is accounted for and unlike the commercial description is overbearing.

From a sixpack that was a gift! Smell is not nessy spicy but the first taste is somewhat cinnamon er something. Has a decently cloudy darker color. Appears to be trying to become a holiday classic but not too hard. Not rude by any extrent but does have that typocal spice rudeness so common in these holiday beers. I hate these laptops. Orange peel is not tastable. It you don’t like the way they roll them in the city....... Does have some old ale attributes that can be appriciated. Overall, just another spicy beer.
