Black body with a small tan head, lasting. The nose is milk chocolate, roast and molasses. The flavor is moderately sweet, lightly bitter with chocolate, molasses and dark fruit. Medium/full body is rough and chalky with light carbonation.

Dark brown with some light brown colors at the bottom of the glass. When swirled or when at the bottom of the glass, the light color really makes itself noticeable – with an oily, thin, cola color and appearance. When served cold this comes across as a dessert beer, with some sugary chocolate syrup and some mildly cherry malt notes, but when warm it quickly turns into a more astringent, disgustingly roasty stout with flavors of just anything jumping around – grapes, apples, toffee, oak, char, sour coffee and potato starches. Amazing how much it changed over a short period of time. I began liking it, but I ended up not finishing half of my pint.

Draft at the Gettysburg brewpub. Looks like you’d expect, inky thick, with a thin but creamy and grippy head. Vaguest aroma, but nice robust rich roasted malts. The finish is almost medicinal -- a bitter end. (#3289, 1/11/2008)
