This flavorful sweet ale has a smooth malt finish balanced against a light hop flavor. This beer is very quaffable and has become a brewpub favorite throughout the United States.

Dark amber color that fizzed out pretty quick once in the glass. Aroma of caramel and malt with a sweet malty flavor. Good tasting brew.

Bottle: Hazy, reddish amber-brown with a very thin beige head. Caramel, berry aroma. Taste is sweet.....toffee malt, a little tangy fruit/berry.....almost sticky. Pretty good, but not much peat or smokiness.

This is a good beer. Full bodied and full of flavor, it doesn’t get in the way of what you’re eating and it’s really smooth on the finish. After about a week in the fridge, though, it had lost significant head and carbonation. I was pretty bummed to see how it didn’t keep very long.

DATE TASTED: November 28, 2015 ... GLASSWARE: Victory HopDevil nonick... OCCASION: Cavs/Nets nail-biter after the lighting of our Christmas tree... APPEARANCE: dark amber body, reminiscent of a black and tan; thin, off-white head that holds to a balanced disc... almost too dense to detect effervescence... AROMA: malt-forward, with fruity hops suggesting cherries making for a nuanced aroma; traces of peat, but the sweetness of toasted malts rides the nostrils... PALATE: medium-bodied, textured and warming; a sessionable feel at 5.2%... slightly active at the teeth, with a paradoxically soft, lingering aftertaste... resisting the urge to suggest cola, but it has the bubble and late fizz... TASTE: light in this aspect, with some toasted bread malts and a touch of smoky peat.. otherwise, a blunted, malted end...some nutty flavor, like hazelnut, as well... OVERALL: a pleasant, easy-drinking pint that can easily be seen as "brewpub favorite," as the company line states...a great match for a rainy night such as this...

On tao at the source. Pours a clear amber with a decent light tan head. Aroma is caramel malt. Taste is sweet caramel malt, buttered biscuits and mild hops. Really decent.

It was served on tap at the Appalachian Brewing Company. The glassware was a basic pint glass. Appearance: It has a dark coppery amber colored body with good clarity and some visible carbonation. It was topped by a small slightly off white head which settles quickly leaving just a light ring of foam at the edge of the glass. Smell: The aroma is fairly light overall. I mostly pick up sweet maltiness and caramel candy like notes in the nose. Taste / Palate: The sweet maltiness jumps right out and dominates the palate. It brings heavy notes of caramel, toffee and syrup in its deep malty character. Hop flavor and bitterness is very light and just noticeable late in the finish. Overall though it still finishes on the sweet malty side. The feel is medium, smooth and softly carbonated.

Bottle to shaker glass. Pours clear mahogany, quick white head, no lacing, very little retention. Aroma is slightly smoky and caramel. Taste is sweet, no real bitterness to note. Light bodied, under carbonated, mouth feel is watery. Finishes sweet with notes of toffee, sugar, smoke and nuts. Didn’t care for this, too sweet.

Amazing amber/burgundy color but taste and aroma are lacking and leave me wanting more out of it.

Sweet bready malt aroma, pours a clear reddish-brown with a full light tan head. Very sweet malt flavor, with a moderate body, and a lingering sweet finish. I’m not a huge fan of the style, but those who are like this one. I would probably not get it again.

A fairly disappointing scotch! It pours a nice burgundy but has no head or lacing. The aroma has some sweet caramel malt. The taste has a hint of the caramel but is rather thin and doesn’t hold much flavor in the finish. It’s a bit too light and watery to be a good scotch. Ok but not recommended!
