COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This full-bodied dry cousin of the stout has a slight roast flavor and is dark brown in color with a red hue. This is London’s classic beer style named for the baggage carriers that appreciated it so much. Governor Pennypacker was one of Pennsylvania’s more notable politicians. He oversaw the construction and held the lavish ceremonies designating the opening of the Commonwealth’s beautiful Capitol Building.

On tap at brewpub. Poured a dark brown / red color with a medium sized tan head that left nice lacing. Weak roasty, chocolate cream aroma. Some more roast and light smoke.

Pours dark brown with thin fine tan/brown head that dissipates to nothing quickly. Smells evenly of chocolate, roastiness, coffee, and refreshing hops. Flavor: the sweet chocolate hits first, then comes a nice mild roastiness that’s more like the burnt stuff on marshmallows than coffee, and after a couple sips you get the refreshing hops, which I might even relate to mint in the context. Both substantially tasty and quaffable. Everlything I like about dark beers can be found here.

Growler from the Camp Hill location, consumed within a few hours of the fill. Pours ruby hued dark brown with tan head. The aroma is ashy with some chocolate, caramel, and marshmellow. The flavor is ash, roasty coffee, and a little bit of toffee. Some earthy hops and a few anise notes come out later. Smooth drinker, though not mindblowing.

Pours a very dark brown with a lacing, off white head. Graham crackers and chocolate on the aroma. Sweet, with hints of ground, roasted coffee, bitter finish. Very nice.

Draft at Gettysburg brewpub. Very mild sweet malt aroma. Black body, off-white head. Flavor is sweet and roasty. Overall, disappointing.

draft- nicely done porter- a bit sweeter than their stout and lacking that roast flavor- more chocolate and coffee going on. But I preferred the stout.

Clear brown body with a small beige head. The nose is roast, coffee, chocolate and light molasses. Fairly dry taste with roast, chocolate, light raisins and molasses. Medium body is round with moderate carbonation.

Draft @ Camp Hill. Rich, dark brown colored body with some dark walnut brown light at the top and sides. Chocolate malts heavy in the nose, and overall the smell is rich and sweet, with notes of chocolate syrup, crtusty, bready malts (but not toasty), and some lighter notes of cheese funk/yeast which probably aren’t meant to be smelled. Frothy, moderately thick/regular texture for a porter, with that godawful resinous/oily quality that you find in almost every ABC beer. Semi-sweet twang of chocolate syrup sweetener in the finish. A pretty basic porter, but nothing to turn your nose up at.
