COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Zoigl is a golden, unfiltered lager beer which was originally brewed only in the region of Eastern Bavaria, between Franconia and the Czech Republic. For centuries, Zoigl was brewed in brewhouses owned by the town or an association of small brewers. The Zoigl-Star, a six-angular star similar to the Star of David, was the sign of brewers in the middle ages. The star symbolizes the three elements (water, earth, and fire) and the three ingredients (water, malt, and hops) used for brewing. The importance of the yeast was not yet known in the 1400’s.

Wife ordered this draft at ABC’s Gettysburg Gateway location. Served in a pint glass, hazy golden color with white head. Aroma of bready malt sweetness and a faint fruity note. Taste adds some graininess and light toast. Light body, moderate carbonation, crisp with clean finish. Stands above the average macro-lager.

FROTHINGSLOSH (5045) - GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 11, 2014
Sampled on draft this beer poured a hazy dark golden amber color with a medium sized foamy white head that faded and left decent lacing. The aroma was sweetish bread crust and honey. The flavor was tangy and sweet with notes of orange, tropical fruits, honey and bread. Medium length tangy and sweet orange, tropical fruit and honey finish. Medium body. Solid.

Light orange, tangy aroma and tangy taste. Almost orange like. A little funky. Not too bad. Not quite sure how I feel about this one. It’s good and bad at the same time.

On tap at the brewpub in Gettysburg. Pours a clear light orange with a thin white head. Aroma of bready malts and light sweet fruits. Flavor of bready/crackery malt, lemon, and light fruits. Perhaps more malty than most zwickel/keller/landbiers I’ve had before but it’s light and palatable. Also a little high in abv for the style. Despite it’s imperfections, it’s fun to try such a rare style and it’s pretty tasty. 6/4/7/4/14 (3.5/5)

An amber lager with a thin white head. In aroma, faint grainy malt with light mineral notes. In mouth, a nice grainy crip malt with light rye notes, bready, well done. On tap at brewery restaurant, April 10th, 2011.

Pours with a thin head. Doesn’t leave much lacing. Taste is very dry and leaves something of a metallic aftertaste. A bit one-note for my tastes.

Pours somewhat-cloudy gold, a shade darker than our mountain lager, with fair head. Aroma is very grassy, but the flavor favors a long and dominating bitterness, accompanied by some distinctly lagery sulfury notes, and a clean malt undertone. I wouldn’t say that this beer’s being unfiltered defines its flavor as much as the hopping schedule, which when combined with Pa’s water profile, makes a slightly harsh bitterness that dominates.

On tap at the ABC brewpub. Poured a hazy golden color with a small sized white head. Aromas of grains and bready. Tastes of grains, bready with some citrus.
