COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Zoigl is a golden, unfiltered lager beer which was originally brewed only in the region of Eastern Bavaria, between Franconia and the Czech Republic. For centuries, Zoigl was brewed in brewhouses owned by the town or an association of small brewers. The Zoigl-Star, a six-angular star similar to the Star of David, was the sign of brewers in the middle ages. The star symbolizes the three elements (water, earth, and fire) and the three ingredients (water, malt, and hops) used for brewing. The importance of the yeast was not yet known in the 1400’s.

Clear pale body with a small white head. The nose is cereal, floral hops and honey. The flavor is lightly sweet with spicy herbal/florals hops, honey and grainy malt. Medium body is rough with moderate carbonation.

Sweet corn and grain nose, with lightly notes of wheat and unnamed adjuncts. Tinny and sour flavor, with some fresh but mild corn and pils malt, far too sweet, but at least it has some decent fruity citrus hops that smell and taste decent enough.

Orange color with decent size head. Light malty aroma. Taste is malty with an interesting heavier sweet flavor. Hop bitterness is much more present than other lagers. Interesting...........

Have you ever accidently run your notes on a beer through the washing machine? Last night I turned my notes on this beer to pulp with help from Kennmore’s Heavy Duty double rinse cycle. I do remember Zoigl Star being a fine looking fresh lager with light bitternesss . Zoigl Star has peaked my interest in Eastern Bavarian region and ABC beers.

This is a good lager. Definitely has some character and flavor to talk about, something that was lacking in other ABC brews. Definitely a big step up from the Mountain lager.
