bottled. purple with no head, looked like cola; a whiff of dessicated coconut with some dark chocolate; rum’n’raisin flavours, lightly metallic, a little fizzy but pleasantly so; finishes with vanilla sweetness. a decent effort with the quality of the ingredients showing

Bottle from Yamaoka. Almost black with a tinge of red. Low tan head. Rich caramel and Munich malts, with dark fruits in the nose; quite sweet. Nice dark malt flavor, with a bit of tangy fruit. Sweet, with noticeable alcohol. Bitter, rather hoppy finish. Rather light in body, with low carbonation. A true bock—nicely made with good, rich malt.

This was pretty nice...muted smell of cherry oak and chocolate, deep ruby brown with very little purplish head. Flavour was woodsy, raisiny, winey, sweet with a cotton candy twist, and slightly tart with a slight toasted puckerish finish.

Short 12OZ bottle. pours a nice hazy copper color . Belgian hop aroma. flavor is slightly tart. Great beer if it is a sour.

My Bottom Line:
Fruity vinosity and malt candy spin within this lean Dunkler Bock, showing their chocolatey and spicy undertones once in a while. Not shaped into the most stellar of mouthfeels, it still manages to entertain throughout the glass.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A ring of foam circumspects the rubyish dark brown.
-The soft carbonation showcases the slick maltiness.
-After having had a few Aqula beers, I guess I’m just not as big a fan of their products as most rating gaijins.
-Fruitiness is quite expressive, maybe a bit too much so for my tastes in the style.

sweet and syrupy, pastry, raisin aroma; dark brown pour, quiet, small tan head with dark copper body and orange-ruby highlight; toasty, a chocolate note, apple, and it is basically with a sweet, somewhat pastry, malty fruit flavor--somewhat lighter as it warms, and is definitely malty, a bock; interesting and nice!

Bought at Takanaya for around $4. Pours with medium fine bubbles on the side of the glass, but with no head (I even tried a strong direct pour into the middle of the glass). Deep rich reddish brown color. Aroma of my first homebrewed nut brown ale. No overroasted grain notes, or anything unpleasant. Easy to drink, well balanced aroma and hops. Great everyday beer.

Deep brown with a thin tan head. Wonderful nose filled with hazelnuts, milk chocolate, dried cherries, fig, and a warm under current of alcohol. Semi sweet a touch thinner then I would have expected. Still comes off with a warming nutty flavor filled with breadiness, dried fruits. Firms up as it warms and becomes creamier as the carbonation settles out, bring with it woody coco, and toasted bread. Finishes with a touch of coffee, a lot of bready nuts, and a nice boozy warmth.

This brewery has the tightest caps! Finally popped the cap and had a gusher. Lasting head. Dark brown beer. Nose of cardboard and brown sugar. The flavour not shy but is all over the place without the depth of body to support it. Sherry, woody, brown sugar, a bit burnt.

Pours dark brown with ruby red highlights. Creamy tan head. Aroma of toasted malts, spice, molasses, and alcohol. Flavor was roasted, smokey malts, cocoa, bread, dark fruits, molasses, and brown sugar. Delicious. Finished with nice bittersweet chocolate/molasses, and kinda dry. Tasty as it gets. Well balanced and complex. Full, creamy body. Enjoyed this greatly, will pick up again and again.
