COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The latest specialty beer to come out of the Corner Brewery is our Arborealis Double IPA. This extremely hoppy beer is 7.6% ABV and has 83 IBU’s. The hop bitterness is balanced by a ton of hop flavor and aroma resulting from several late addition hop charges and by dry-hopping with 1 pound of hops per barrel. The predominant hop used in this beer is Aurora, hence the name Arborealis.

Served on draft at HopCat in Grand Rapids. Pours an orange color with a very slight haze. Medium head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma of nice citrus hop notes as well as some tropical fruits. The taste is very bitter citrus, slight woody notes and a bit of tropical fruit notes. Medium-full bodied.

On tap at the Corner Brewery. Pours a hazy golden amber with a white head. Strong citrus aroma, lemon and orange, some pine. Flavor is again stuffed with citrus: grapefruit, lemon, and orange. Again a lot of pine also in there. Very juicy, fresh tasting. Great stuff.

Had on tap at the Union in Clarkston, Michigan on December 28, 2009. According to other sources, this one clocks in at 83 IBU’s. A: Poured a somewhat hazy orangish copper with a small, but nice head on it. S: Lots of citrus and pine with only the slightest alcohol hints. A bit of sweetness from the malt, without too much caramel coming through. T: Lots of citrus hops with some tropical fruits coming in as well. A bit of pine and resin in the aftertaste. Although the malt did not balance this one out--and I’m glad it didn’t--I really appreciated how the sweeter-feeling tropical and citrus hops were balanced out by the pine element. Excellent taste all around. M: Medium-bodied with a good amount of carbonation and no real alcohol bite. D: Very, very drinkable. Glad this was one I had a full glass of rather than just a taster. My first beer from Arbor, and I was very pleased--in fact, I think my wife and I are going to head down there today during our extended holiday vacation. Serving type: on-tap Reviewed on: 12-28-2009

Draft at Hopcat during RBSG. It was pretty funny, the waiter couldn’t remember which was which so he smelled this and the Q Falls lager. This was the less hoppy of the two. Pours a slightly ambered gold with a sticky head. Nose is slightly resiny, not particularly dank. Citrus and a bit of caramel as well. On taste, good clean bitterness and again, light caramel. Lacks the umph I’d expect from a double IPA. Still, reasonable enough beer.

On tap. Pours a clear amber orange with a large white head that lasts and laces nicely. Aroma has a strong pine note and not much else. Flavor is also very one note with a strong pine hop presence.

On tap. Hazy medium orange body, thin off-white head. Hoppy nose, bitter and citrusy. Sweet, resinous body with grapefruit and other citrus, backed by caramely malt. Bitter finish. Sticky, slippery, and oily. The peculiar viscosity is quite distracting.

MiBG Summer Fest 2009, Friday Session: (at the Corner Brewery booth) Deep golden hue with a small head. The aroma has notes of grassy and herbal hops, some pine and grapefruit esters, biscuity grains, and a touch of mineral water. The taste is pretty well balanced with bitterness versus maltiness. There was a metallic astringent character about the herbal finish. The mouth feel is a tad thin for the flavor profile. A very average entry into the DIPA style.

Draught at HopCat in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Light golden amber with a thin whispy head. Nice foamy lacing. Fairly mild hoppiness, sweet, floral, a bit piney. Light bodied, light lingering bitterness.
