Cask; Occasional. Also available bottled conditioned.
A lot of thought has gone into this beer - we’ve been working on the recipe for well over a year! So, it started out as an Imperial Stout. How about a few oats? How about a hell of a lot of oats?! Some smoked malt maybe - just a little. All good so far. A few specialty German grains should round off the mash quite nicely. Then onto the boil. With our very own coffee roaster here in Bristol, it seemed a shame not to use them. We played around with a few samples from Brian Wogan Coffee and finally settled on some freshly roasted Brazilian Santos beans. Awesome coffee! Just needed something a bit chocolaty to finish it off. How about some chocolate? How about some organic raw cacao nibs?! Job done. Just a long slow fermenation and conditioning period and the result is outstanding.

Negro opaco con espuma beige. Aromas de chocolate, café y toffe. Cuerpo medio, con inicio dulce y achocolatado con final de amargor equilibrado tostado y, nuevamente, de chocolate.

[5951-20131019] Cask. Chilli smoked roasted malt grain aroma. Black body with a quick creamy off-white head. Roasted coffee malt and woody spiced notes in the flavour. Full body. Good. (8/4/8/4/16) 4.0

Pours almost black with predominant coffee aroma. Tobacco and chocolate too but the coffee dominates and I agree with the reviewer that says there’s a disappointing burnt coffee flavour that kicks in.

Large bottle from Favourite Beers Cheltenham. Dark almost black colour with a greyish brown head. Aroma had lots of coffee, The taste had the twiggy burnt notes I associate with really badly made coffee. Hard to drink and couldn’t have finished a whole bottle.

Bottle. Black with a small head. Chocolate and to a lesser degree coffee are the prominent flavours. Smooth and easy to drink. With this strength I don’t think it would be a breakfast drink. Another good one from this brewery.

On tap at the Hanging Bat, Edinburgh. Pours black with beige head. Roasted coffee aroma. On the sweet side, coffee, chocolate, roasted malts in flavor. Good one.

568 ml bottle from Birra+. Very dark brown, but looks black in the glass, strangely with pretty much no head, even with a very aggressive pour. Nice coffee presence upfront, lots of roasted malts as expected, a hint of graininess, perhaps some type of dark/berries type of fruits as well. Not much going on, but nice intensity and cleanliness. If the lack of head was any indication, I knew to be ready to expect a quasi flat beer. Light astringency upfront, again plenty of bitter chocolate and especially coffee notes. Mild toffe/burnt caramel presence in the background. Probably way too boozy being this flat and not really easy to drink, but that’s what I have in the glass. No carbonation, medium to full body, oily texture. Shame about the carbonation, because the aroma and taste aren’t bad at all.

Breakfast stout meravigliosa!!! L’ho comprata su cantinadellabirra.it.

Bottle, picked up at ’Jacks’, Goring on Thames, Oxon, consumed at Crystal Palace Campsite, London, Saturday 4th October 2014. In mouth and on nose, some smooth milk chocolate a little lactic, very good. Black in colour, oily with a nice creamy oaty flavour also showing. Wonderful beer. A8 A4 T8 P4 Ov17 4.1
