Cask; Occasional. Also available bottled conditioned.
A lot of thought has gone into this beer - we’ve been working on the recipe for well over a year! So, it started out as an Imperial Stout. How about a few oats? How about a hell of a lot of oats?! Some smoked malt maybe - just a little. All good so far. A few specialty German grains should round off the mash quite nicely. Then onto the boil. With our very own coffee roaster here in Bristol, it seemed a shame not to use them. We played around with a few samples from Brian Wogan Coffee and finally settled on some freshly roasted Brazilian Santos beans. Awesome coffee! Just needed something a bit chocolaty to finish it off. How about some chocolate? How about some organic raw cacao nibs?! Job done. Just a long slow fermenation and conditioning period and the result is outstanding.

moccha head with thick bubbles fades fast leaves some lacing. coffee coloured. aroma is coffee grounds, oats, chocolate and bit of leather. taste like aroma, some caramel, ash, bitter chocolate finishes with rather bitter finish from the roasted malts. rather thin body but creamy/silky mouthfeel, soft carbonation. very nice given the abv and coffee forward. bottle 50cl / bbf jul-2015

Bottle from The Beerhive. Black body body with a thick beige head. Excellent lacing. Aroma of hazelnut, cappuccino and earth. Flavour of pistachio, chocolate and prunes. Medium body with a creamy mouthfeel. Faint carbonation. The last few Arbor beers I’ve had have been top drawer.

Dark and creamy, with good espresso and chocolate flavors. Smooth and not too sweet. Not as bitter as some other imperial stouts. Easy to drink.

First of all, this is not an Imperial Stout but an Export Stout. It should be compared to the other export stouts, not to the imperial ones that belong to a very different style. The aroma is of roasted grains, bitter chocolate, coffee and english, grassy, earthy hops. Velvety texture, spicy yeast, maybe too attenuated than what I’d expect from a sweet stout. It has a so bitter and so so long aftertaste. Perfect foam, perfect color. It’s a very good beer but it’s in the wrong category.

Petroleum beer. Almost black, lack of head. Coffee and chocolate aromas hide other notes (exception: black olives and a bit of fruits). Too much coffee for me. In mouth it is bitter. low carbonation and medium body. Dry and long ending. Is it coffee or beer?
