COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We inoculated an oak cask with Hansens Geueze, filled it with Old Ale, covered it withy stale hops (to serve as a preservative) and aged it for a year. Then we transferred it to the bottle and bottle conditioned it for another year. The lactobacillus and perhaps some of the yeast from the Hansens consumed some more of the residual sugars left in the Old Ale that were inaccessible to our standard ale yeast. This combined with some oxidation from the oak cask soured the beer and gave it some earthy character. It is a sour and spicy ale reminiscent of a Flemish Brown - with a complex palate of dark fruits and earthy, oaky notes. Hope you love it as much as we do!

Bottle provided by bu11zeye...at his own house. Thanks again Markus. This seemed a little sloppy to me. This had more vinegar, raw wood and acidic bite than expected. Flemish brown, not really. Just kinda...sour. Cool concept though.

Dog Days of Summer Gathering, thanks Beerlando. ’05 bottle. dark brown, no head. Vinegar bomb. Lots of acidic and vinegary presence in this one, light fruits, skinned/puree like dark fruits (berries), very acidic and sour with the oud bruin elements blending nicely with the barrel aging. Could be nicer if it did not have that much vinegar notes, still a good beer to share.

750ml bottle, 2005 vintage. The pour yields a clear, dark, coppery-brown body with virtually no head, showing just a pencil lead thin line of micro-bubbles at the edge. There is no lacing to note. The nose is aggressively acetic and vinegary, to the point of being borderline harsh, with pungent notes of fermented figs. What little sugars remain from the brown caramel malt, along with a touch of tupelo honey, dull the nose just enough to keep it from being downright offensive. Flavors are over-the-top acetic, triggering a puckering, electric reaction from glands at the back of the mouth. The vinegar component is just too strong, hinting at a cross between cider and balsamic, and a bit of acetone doesn’t help. You get the sense of some indiscernible dark fruits in the background, but the insanely tart, old oak barrel influence dominates any subtleties that might hide within. Like the rest of the beer, the dry, flat, almost lifeless palate is a major letdown. This is a tough one to get through. Way too much time in the barrel, I would guess.

(750ml bottle, 2005 vintage) Pours a murky brown body with a spare off-white head. Aroma of vinegar, barnyard, mustiness, acetone, and cherries. Flavor of cherries, leather, caramel, vinegar, lacto, and grass.

(750ml bottle 2005 vintage thanks to bu11zeye) murky deep orange-copper with no real bubbles to speak of. Nose of moss, cellar, caramel, and vinegar. Taste of vinegar, very salty, wood barrel, this is not well done. Reminds me of salad dressing too much.
