Commercial Description:
Imperial Brown Ale. IBU's= 26. Tasting Notes: A nice bold summer beer with a huge floral hoppy nose, medium body, and a well balanced palate full of bready carmelly malts balanced by rich floral hops. Medium carbonation contributes to the drinkability of this unique ale. We are pleased to present this limited release collaboration beer jointly designed and brewed at the Corner Brewery in Ypsilanti and Dark Horse Brewing Co in Marshall. Dark Corner is a celebration of the creativity and passion that Michigan brewers Matt Greff and Aaron Morse bring to their craft. It is also a tribute to their cooperative spirit and sense of community. This year’s recipe is an ode to simplicity. It is an imperial brown ale with lots of rich malts for a pleasing palate with hints of toasted bread an caramel. Hops are floral and understated which contributes to its balance and drinkability. The 6 packs are custom-drawn collectibles. Next year’s Dark Corner will be a new brew with a new story.

12 ounce bottle courtesy of mibirder,. Thanks! Pours a slightly hazy reddish brown color with a very large head. Aroma is chocolate, nutty notes and light tart fruit notes. Taste is chocolate, nutty notes, citrus and very light infection notes... nothing jumps out at you but this is clearly just a bit off.

[2117-20090426] 12floz bottle. Sweet corny yeast aroma with mild caramel butter. Murky, dark amber brown body with a long-lasting foamy tan head. Sweet boozy toasted yeast flavour has mild caramel notes. Medium-full body. Average.

2009-04-26. Red Cap. Hazy dark brown with a massive beige head. Aroma of tangy malt, dusty toasty notes. Mild yeasty undertones. Flavour tastes suspiciously like one of my homebrews, with a tangy note to the malt. Pleasant mild hops over sweet caramel malt. Alcohol is quite restrained, only showing a bit of itself. Average plus palate is over carbonated. Okay. Bottle from Swoopjones’ Toronto Maple Leafs Store

Bottle (12oz). Red Cap. Tried to gush on opening, but I tamed it - brilliantly refractive deep copper pour with a huge fluffy off-white head (floaties galore). Interesting, balanced aroma (brown ale? no way!) - dry resin hops and mild toasty malt, bit of cocoa and tart generic fruit in the background. Taste is very grainy and dry, lemony, bready and a tad alcoholic - holy crap that’s carbonated, not much bitterness in the finish, it actually sort of tastes like a slightly tart brown ale. Weird, but I liked it a bit, although it’s a bit off-puttingly sour - somewhat infrected?

From my backlog. Very little carbonation. Dish soap with an odd sweetness underneath. Oxidized aroma and flavour. Yum, cardboard! I’m trying my best to pick out what in the world they were trying to do here. I get a little nuttiness and light notes of some pine in what used to be a more pronounced hop aroma and bitterness. An experiment gone horribly wrong.

Bottle courtesy of swoopjones. Pours reddish-brown with a massive lasting foamy beige head. Aroma of toasted malt, some chocolate and very light earthy hops. Flavour’s malty (roasty caramel) along with fruit, spices, alcohol and earthy hops, slightly metallic or tangy or something. Average bitter finish. Overly carbonated. Medium bodied. Just O.K., seems slightly infected.

Bottle courtesy of swoopjones. Dirty brown with a medium sized beige head. Aroma of roasted/toasted malt and earthy hops - not super complex, just really nice, and very American in style, if that makes sense. Medium mouthfeel. Flavour of slightly charred malt, a hint of roasted coffee, the earthy hops suggested by the aroma, warm finish. Solid stuff.
