Oatmeal and 20 pounds of fresh roasted coffee from the Ugly Mug Cafe contribute to a mildly chalky espresso character balanced by a rich, sweet, creamy maltiness. coffee finish dissolves into chocolate with a slight roasty bitterness. Brewed with 100% fair-trade coffee from the Ugly Mug Café and Roastery in Ypsilanti, MI. Pairs well with desserts, especially dark chocolate, raspberries, and cheesecake.

wow. lots of carbonation in this bottle. maybe shouldve sat even longer. ive had it in the cellar for 2 months. a mild coffee scent. pour even looked a little watery. taste is also a little watery compared to others. nice dark color however. pretty good, wouldn’t go out of my way to get it again.

Bottle: Pours a dark brown with a very small tan head. Aroma, roasty, coffee, chocolate, earthy. Flavor, roasted coffee notes, some chocolate, dry roasty finish. There is some buttery notes, it’s on the thin side as well.

Dark brown body with ruddy highlights at the edges, thin tan head. Aroma is mostly coffee and roasted malts. Rather dry, plain body of coffee beans. Soft, rather thin. Light sweetness. Seems everyone has picked up on the "Breakfast Stout" theme, but Founders reigns supreme (and, I admit, I’m biased).

12 oz bottle, pours deep brown and nearly flat. Coffee and roast and sweet aroma, slightly phenolic and artificially acidic. Overly acidified and somewhat medicinal, not a very good coffee stout. Definitely feels like extract was added, although really not bad.

On tap at Pizza Plant. Black as a stout should be, brown head, I really liked this stout. Not overpowering, smooth, yet full of flavor, and excellent with dinner. Not as stout as a stout is expected to be, still had enough body and flavor to please me and go back for seconds.

12 oz bottle: Aroma is very high on coffee, mainly spent coffee grindings. It smells like more a batch of iced or chilled coffee than a brew all the same. A little bit of detectable malts in this brew as well. Pours a pitch black with little or no head. Taste has a definite coffee backing. It tastes very similar to the last batch of Founders Breakfast Stout. All coffee and nothing else that made the brew good. I’m glad I rated that brew when it was half-way decent. This brew on the other hand is average. Too much of an coffee taste for me. Palate is almost coffee like with a coffee aftertaste in the brew. Overall, I like a good cup of joe, but this is too much like one to be really enjoyable as a beer. Decent, but not great at all.

Dark coffee aroma and taste but not as good as I was hoping for, seemed to lose some of its characteristics near the end of the pint

12oz - Aroma is dark coffee, roasted chocolate and some chewy malts. Pours black with no head or lacing. Flavor is watery mocha with a nice roasty finish. Palate is dry. Not a bad brew, but there are many other better coffee stouts.

black body, no head, malty mocha nose, sweet chocolate flavor, vanilla, creamy mouthfeel, good coffee flavor without the acidic bitterness that some coffee stouts have, licorice/anise, very sweet and very good
