12 oz. bottle courtesy of a trade with mikem409. Pours more like a cola than a beer with a black body and a head that fizzed away in seconds. Pleasant aroma of coffee with notes of roasted malt and chocolate. The flavor is coffee with a bit of cardboard and tobacco. Moderate bitterness at the finish. Medium bodied.

12oz bottle 7/24/09 (Siciliano’s Market-Grand Rapids)-Pours a dark brown almost black with a small tan head. Aroma of coffee, malt, and slight chocolate. Taste of malt, slight bitterness, and slight tart. Tastes like it is infected. This medium to full bodied brew is another so so brew from these guys.

Bottle. Pours black with a small tan head that recedes rapidly. Aroma of coffee, roasted malt and grains, bitter chocolate, sweet malt. Flavor of sweet malt up front, some coffee but it is faint, with roasted malt in the finish. Palate is smooth and creamy. This one lacks a strong espresso presence, but it is a tasty stout. 7/4/7/4/15 [3.7/5]

12oz bottle from a trade awhile back..... almost black pour with a quickly disappearing head that leaves no sign that one was ever there..... decent coffee aroma at first but quickly turns sour and vegetal....flavors continue along the same front but the sour notes are even more distracting. can’t even finish a bottle of this.

12oz dalekliz got me on her road trip or her mom got it for me, hard to know, great ipa from them and good name I thought it was worth a try. Pours black with a tan ring. Nose is nice with a lot of deep dark coffee and espresso character. Taste is rich and better than I’d expect from the ratings.

12 ounce bottle into snifter, no bottle date. Pours clear dark brown color with an instant 3-4 fingers of foamy tan head with decent retention, that reduces to a thin cap of lacing. A little bit of lacing clings to the glass as well. Aromas of dark fruits, molasses, dark chocolate, coffee, roasted malt, and caramel. Some interesting and decent aromas here, but it is definitely improving as it warms up. Taste of espresso, dark chocolate, roasted malt, and caramel; with a bit of dark fruits and molasses. Finish is a bit too dry for my liking, but there is lingering notes of dark chocolate, roasted malt, coffee, and caramel. Not much bitterness other than bitter coffee on the finish. Medium body and carbonation; with a decent creamy mouthfeel that goes down pretty smooth. No alcohol other than a warming on the finish noticed. Overall this is not as bold as I was hoping for because of my love of FBS, but this is a solid stout.

12oz bottle from The Beer Depot in Ann Arbor, MI. Pours a black colored body with a thin, frothy, tan head that dissipates quickly and leaves a moderate lacing. Aroma is big, fresher coffee and espresso with a nice chocolate sweetness. A touch of cream and vanilla. Flavor is big coffee and an odd sourness. A bit of an acidity to the espresso. There is a nice chocolate and some caramel sweetness as this finishes roasty and dry with a light bitterness. Lengthy aftertaste following a medium body and a moderate carbonation. Overall, a distinct coffee and chocolate stout with a bit of an odd sourness/acidity on the flavor up front. It does finish nicely once the weird sourness passes. If this had a better flavor up front, it could be much better.

12oz bottle, courtesy of CharlesDarwin. Thanks, Tom! Pours a murky, dark brown color, like a muddy espresso; minimal head formation. Dense, tootsie rolls and nougat in the aroma; espresso and plenty of chocolate. Medium mouthfeel: nougaty and chewy espresso core; lightly roasted coffee character (no greenness), with a light citrus note; ends with plenty of roasted coffee and oily nuttiness.

Dark brown body with ruddy highlights at the edges, thin tan head. Aroma is mostly coffee and roasted malts. Rather dry, plain body of coffee beans. Soft, rather thin. Light sweetness. Seems everyone has picked up on the "Breakfast Stout" theme, but Founders reigns supreme (and, I admit, I’m biased).
