3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 downender (4380) - Bristol, - MAY 15, 2010
Cask-conditioned at the Victoria, Clifton Lido, Bristol 15/05/10. Near black in colour with a slight tan head, that left a trace of lace down the glass. Aroma of black coffee, dark fruit and a touch of chocolate. Flavour of roasted malts upfront, with a slightly creamy edge, followed by blackcurrant berry fruit and a gentle, slightly sweet finish. Very drinkable.

Cask at Battersea Beer Festival, 9th Feb 2011. Deep ruby colour with a bubbly tan head. Nose is quite boozy, also fruity. Strong, intense roasted taste with plum hints and some nutty flavours. Rich, full palate. Very smooth. More of an end of the evening beer than a start of a festival one!

Cask (gravity dispense) at Battersea Beer Festival on 10 February 2011. Very dark brown. Good roasty character. Quite creamy. Lots of chocolate. Excellent but is it a mild? If it had been badged as a stout I would not have taken issue.
