Not a pencil. Rhyming collaborations? Partizan and Smartiezan. Beavertown and Cleaverbrown. BrewDog and PooLog. Minus the now obligatory for the oflipaflory.

Bottle from Rehills, Newcastle. A bright deep red coloured beer that has spicy, rich red fruity flavours, currants, berries and an oaky, nutty, slight roasted finish.

Hazy dark brown with a small head, in the nose plenty of caramel malts, brown sugar, a bit of orange, hints of coca cola. Some raisins and alcohol. Almost overwhelmingly sweet, but a mild bitterness overrides the sweetness at the end. Enjoyed it more as it went down.

Bottle conditioned: ’Colab 1B’. Still, tawny copper capped loosely with beige. Fig-heavy, toffee sweet nose with muscavado and sweet nectarine. Yeasty, still, slightly agricultural with an enticing, muted fireside fruitines; plummy yeast; apple peel and redcurrant skin notes. Ripe nectarine right through it. Dunk of Hovis biscuit. Mellow and good.

Bottle. Dark brown with an off white foam. Aromas are raisins, toffee and cookie dough with chocolate. Plummy with herbal, leafy notes. Brown sugar with cookie dough and hints of banana. Flavours are banofie pie with dark cherries and chocolate. Plummy with candy sugar and spicy, earthy hops. A good belgian style brew.

Gentle nose with notes of chocolate and some vineous raisin qualities. Pours a muddy medium brown with some spotting in the head from the sediment. The flavour is rich and pleasantly syrupy with some fig, some treacle and some muscovado sugar. A little bitterness remains to cut through the treacley goodness and the end result is balanced albeit a dessert rather than a session beer. Lovely.
