COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Jackhammer is a very dark brown ale with a nice reddish hue. Offering a welcome warming sensation, it has a rich malty sweetness. Fruity esters, expected in this style beer, add to the already complex palate and help to provide an immensely satisfying experience!

Very black, no head. Rich chocolate, dried fruit, gingerbread and spice on the nose. Strong palate, a little hot, with hot cocoa, cream and baking spice flavors. Tasty. Definitely a winter warmer.

Rich and malty old ale. Matl comes in with some cocoa, very fruity though, the alcohol isn’t too over the top.

Sampled from the tap at corner brewery. Poured a deep hazy amber with a white head that dissipates slowly to the edges. Aroma has notes of sweet grains with underlying notes of light fruit and a hint of caramel. Flavor starts with sweet grains and light fruits, but finishes with caramel and a bit of booze.

Bottle in Detroit. Caramel brown appearance with a tan head. Dark caramel, chocolate, slight toffee aroma. Rich toffee, thick caramel, dark chocolate, slightly nutty flavor with a touch of booziness on the finish.

12 ounce bottle into snifter, no bottle date. Pours hazy dark reddish brown color with a small fairly dense khaki head with decent retention that reduces to a lacing cap. A small amount of lacing clings to the glass as well. Aromas of big molasses, dark fruits, caramel, spices, and alcohol. Initially it smelled pretty good, but as it warmed up the alcohol gave off a chemical vibe. Taste of big caramel, toasted malt, molasses, chocolate, spices, and some dark fruits. Slight amount of bitterness on the finish, with lingering notes of chocolate, caramel, spice, and light dark fruit notes. A small amount of alcohol taste near the finish with a decent warming afterward. This actually has some nice balance of flavor, and is not cloyingly sweet at all. Light-medium carbonation and medium bodied; with a nice creamy and smooth mouthfeel that drinks pretty easily. Overall a nice beer, the aromas were a bit off putting though.

12oz bottle. Rating #47. Extremely murky and dense dark brown with a light beige head. Light fruity aroma and a little sweetness. Toasty flavor, caramelly and a bit of a light roasts bitter finish. Pretty decent. (1936)

On tap at Crunchy’s, East Lansing. Deep translucent red-brown body, medium tight cream head. Nose of grape, brown sugar, and toast, sweet and somewhat bitter. Leathery, boozy body with grape, caramel, brown sugar, toast, and hints of butterscotch. Strong but boring.

Sampled at an esbls tasting. A red brown pour with a small head. A malty flavor with nice fruit. Nothing fancy but a nice beer.

Draft. I did not enjoy this one as much as expected, primarily because the alcohol permeated through which overwhelmed. I was surprised because this is not that strong in %.
