COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Jackhammer is a very dark brown ale with a nice reddish hue. Offering a welcome warming sensation, it has a rich malty sweetness. Fruity esters, expected in this style beer, add to the already complex palate and help to provide an immensely satisfying experience!

UPDATED: NOV 22, 2010 Pours a hazy, ruby-toned brown. Small-to-medium head fades quickly to moderate lacing with fine bubbles. Aroma of dark fruits, cherries, mild oak notes. Itís not bad, but all of the flavors are muted and on the stale side. It takes the "old" part seriously. Moderate body, slightly creamy, almost decent carbonation, mildly sweet with a slight sour, lactic, oaky finish thatís mildly warming. Hints of whisky on the tongue. Passable but not a great old ale. Very "to style" without being "to drink."

Draft - pours a dark murky brown , some fruity dark fruit aromas mostly raisins with a hint of spice. Taste is sweet with some caramel , raisin, plum and figs. A very drinkable Old Ale .

On tap at brewery. Deep red pour. Didnít get the advertised "chocolate covered cherry," but did get elements of tart booze as it warmed.

Pours a dark ruby with a huge khaki head. Very carbonated. Great aroma, dark fruit mixed with roasty malt. Taste starts sweet (caramel, fruit, sugar) and ends bitter with slight booze. The alcohol is hidden well though, but you can feel it. Very well balanced from beginning to end. This is one of the best winter warmers Iíve had. Must try.

Poured a very dark amber which seemed highly carbonated and had a thick, light brown head that stayed foamy for awhile. Smells sweet, almost belgian-y with maybe a little hop in there. The flavor is a rich olde ale consistant with others that I have tried (and quite good!). It’s sweet with a bitter finish and a bit of a tart aftertaste. It’s medium-bodied in the mouth and quite drinkable. Seems pretty gentle for 8.5% and well worth the try!

sample at brewpub. Very fruity and hoppy, it has a complex taste and a texture that I like, but the taste of the alcohol is a little too prominent.

Suspecting that it might gush, I chilled the bottle down to 32 degrees before opening. No luck, I had to wait 30 min. for the foam to settle before I could even consider drinking it. Iím not sure why Arbor hasnít figured out this problem yet. They generally make good beers. Phat Abbot Triple is one of my favorites. Bad experience with this one. Big waste of money.

Pours a deep hazy brown with a very thin cream head. Faint smell of chocolate and toffee. Slight esters. Chocolate and caramel malts dominate flavor with roasted notes. Alcoholic finish. Medium mouthfeel. Slight hop flavor. A decent, if unspectacular beer.
