| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 11, 2008 Poured a very dark amber which seemed highly carbonated and had a thick, light brown head that stayed foamy for awhile. Smells sweet, almost belgian-y with maybe a little hop in there. The flavor is a rich olde ale consistant with others that I have tried (and quite good!). It’s sweet with a bitter finish and a bit of a tart aftertaste. It’s medium-bodied in the mouth and quite drinkable. Seems pretty gentle for 8.5% and well worth the try!

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 14, 2009 Bottle at Ann Arbor. Poured clear reddish brown color with an average frothy off-white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate toasted sweet malt and small dark fruit aroma. Medium body with a thick smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy toasted sweet flavor with a medium to heavy sweet finish of moderate to long duration. My expectations where exceeded.

Faint smell of chocolate and toffee. Slight esters. Chocolate and caramel malts dominate flavor with roasted notes. Alcoholic finish. Medium mouthfeel. Slight hop flavor. A decent, if unspectacular beer. esjaygee (1600), Oak Creek, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 2, 2009 Mildly hazy caramel brown with a creamy and rather large beige slowly dissipating crown – it took a few minutes to pour the whole bottle. Aroma of caramel, dark fruit, cereal grains and mild alcohol. Taste of caramel, chocolate, dark fruit, raisons and alcohol. Mostly malted but enough of a hop presence to keep it from being too sweet. Creamy and a shade over carbonated but not too bad. jhulett (2), Farmington Hills, Michigan, USA does not count | 1.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 1/10 | 1/5 | 2/20 | Apr 17, 2009 Suspecting that it might gush, I chilled the bottle down to 32 degrees before opening. No luck, I had to wait 30 min. for the foam to settle before I could even consider drinking it. I’m not sure why Arbor hasn’t figured out this problem yet. They generally make good beers. Phat Abbot Triple is one of my favorites. Bad experience with this one. Big waste of money. milewide (625), Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA
| 1.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 1/5 | 2/10 | 2/5 | 3/20 | Mar 23, 2009 Carbonation was extreme! Cold from frig and still 90% foam. More ended up on counter than in my glass. Some sweet carmel taste, but total experience was very negative! flatmatt (234), Northville, Michigan, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 15, 2009 On tap at the brewpub. Pours dark brown with an off-white head. Aromas of dark fruits with some caramel. Flavor is very nice dark fruit, caramel, a bit sweet, and a nice dose of smoke. Not too strong, but not too weak either. I really enjoyed this old ale. jvmiller (532), Bel Air, Maryland, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 30, 2008 Way too carbonated...maybe a bad bottle. Flavor of the beer was a bit unbalanced...harsh in the finish. Strong hops and sweet malt, but not the best balance.
