2.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours fudge black with no head. The aroma, which I found to be the best part of the beer is the smell when you first enter a fudge store on Mackinac. The almost clinical sweetness with very light chocolate. This is the beginning and end to the fun. The taste does not create the same excitement. Less bold, less exciting, less memorable. Begins with a bland chocolate and ends a bit sour with a mouth feel too thin for the color or occasion.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours a dark brown, almost black, with medium tan head, decent lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, caramel, moderate chocolate, and sweetness. Flavor matches well, but definitely needed a bit more chocolate in order to carry the Mackinac Island Fudge name.

2.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20
On draft. Pours a very dark black color with a small amount of beige head. Faint aroma of roasted malt and chocolate. Taste is light sweetness mixed with bitter chocolate and overpowering roasted malt. Has a burnt flavor. Very thin mouthfeel and not much chocolate comes through for a beer with fudge in the title. Finish is smooth but leaves an odd flavor. Not a fan at all. It was hard to finish the pint.

Bottle. Fairly thin black pour with some head but no retention. Nose of roasted malt and coffee. Taste follows the nose and is rather eh. Where is the chocolate? Can't call this fudge stout and have no chocolate slapping you in the face.

2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Bottle as an extra from ? - I cannot remember. I drank this while walking my dog so look to the other reviews for appearance. The aroma from the bottle was light coffee bitterness, subtle chocolate, perhaps some roast, and an odd, bland note through the finish. Taste was not as good as the aroma and presented with a light mix of minimal coffee bitterness, maybe some sweeter malt notes, and a bland, seemingly tastless finish. Mouthfeel was light and watery. I did not really like this beer much and I would not recommend it for drinking while walking your dog.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
12 oz bottle from Siclianoís (Grand Rapids, MI). Pours a rich blackish hue, well hazed and opaque, dark yet thinner, with a frothy light brown head that dies to a ring, laces small to minimal. Aromas are rich cocoa and toffee, sweet and a bit dry and bitter, touches of earth, more caramel and toffee, toast and biscuits, sweet and bitter cocoa mix, with a touch of earth and roast working into the fold, some gentle coffee. Initial is thinner, lighter end of medium bodied with some cocoa and fudge, sweeter and bitter chocolate mix, some sugary caramel and toffee, biscuits and touches of molasses. Gentle dryness, roast, and toast. Some light earthy roast. Sweeter yet lighter bodied. Middle and finish stick to the palate a bit, fudge and cocoa, bakers chocolate, gentle roast and toast with flourishes of sweeter malts. Just underbodied. Flavors are ok though not complex, body lacks. Ok overall with a nice flavor but lacking in aroma and body.

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
12oz bottle from The Beer Depot in Ann Arbor, MI. Pours a black body with a thin, brown head that dissipates quickly and leaves a light lacing. Aroma is roasty with dark chocolates and a light fudge sweetness. Flavor is roasty up front with a good amount of dark chocolates. There is a bit of an odd sourness in there along with some fudge sweetness. Finishes dry and roasty with a nice chocolate fudge richness, but a touch of that sourness. Lengthy aftertaste following a medium-thin feeling body and a light, somewhat flat carbonation. Overall, a bold and flavorful beer, but there are some flaws. A tad bit sour and a bit flat. This could be much better with a little work or a better bottle.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Chrisís bottle, shared with him. Sourish stout, that the very sweet fudge syrupy taste cannot hide or make up. Rather thin for a stout. Drinkable once. Black coloured body, a little rtained white head. Sugar and American chocolate in aroma.

2.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle. Dark brown, clear, tall foamy head. Chocolate and nutty aroma. Body is thin, which is a big negative for a stout. Taste is a little off with a less than stellar finish. Do not recommend this one. Arbor has many good beers, try others.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
mixed expectations for any stout that claims "fudge" status, especially something as acclaimed as mackinac island fudge. itís hard to incorporate, particularly using actual stout, so it could be a very hit or miss brew. aroma is a nice ordinary stout with roasted barley and dry chalky character, with some cocoa notes but nothing extraordinarily fudgey. much sweeter and smoother flavor and body, as the fudge lends an oily and syrupy element to distinguish it from a "plain" dry stout. medium finish, with plenty of sweet cocoa and bitter roast dueling to the end. enjoyable and decently brewed!
