A roasty, dry stout made with real fudge for a subtle chocolate-fudge character without being sweet. Top with whipped cream for a special treat!

We first visited Mackinac Island in spring of 2008 and were instantly smitten. So we couldn’t have been more excited when we were asked to brew a signature Mackinac Island Fudge Stout.

This rich and satisfying beer was inspired by long summer afternoons and lazy weekends spent on the Island. But just like summer on the Island, it’ll be gone before you know it, so drink it up while it’s here!

I have mixed feelings about this one. It's definitively a dry stout, bordering on bitter (think baking cocoa). There is a semblance of fudge in the flavor, but this type of beer seems to call out to be a sweet stout. The malt base is roasty, but is on the thin side. A little disappointing. This beer is fair. It’s fairly light for a fudge inspired brew, since I think fudge is very rich. This is not quite as rich as you’d think. The aroma was weak to me, and the flavor was decent. Smooth, with a typical roasted stout flavor without much harshness. I don’t think I’d buy again as I find it nondescript.

Dark brown, and a tad cloudy. Metallic roasted nose. Flavor is considerably dry; little evidence of fudge; light astringency. A metallic, and aggressively cloying mouthfeel on a body with too little viscosity. Not a fan. Saugatuck’s Neapolitan Milk Stout blows it away.

Aroma is sweet, semi-roasted malt with some coffee and chocolate. Appearance is dark brown with a light brown head, pretty carbonated. The taste is pretty smoky, almost like a wood fire. Some roasted malt comes into play at the end but the flavor is overwhelmingly smoky. The mouthfeel is carbonated, as expected. Overall, this is severly disappointing.

Black with small brown head. Nose has some coffee. Taste has some good sweetness I would expect in a fudge beer. Unfortunately I get some weird combination of anise and soy, that is not enjoyable. Body is good.

Bottle. Near black in color with minimal head. Aroma of faint chocolate and cardboard. Extra dry with a sour finish. Not a fan.

Pours black with more carbonation than expected. Aroma of heavy chocolate. Flavor is extremly dry without much flavor. Stale cocoa aftertaste and slight hop bite. More of a summer stout I guess, but just not very good. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Black pour with an off white. Malty and chocolate aroma. Roasty and chcoolatey, decent, but not overly good.

Bottle. Pours dark brown... Aromas of roasty malt and lovely dark chocolate with a little twang. Flavor is a decent stout with a slight infection and sour edge. Again... Arbor needs quality control.
