Ominous thick black pour into English pint. Inch tall offwhite frothy head, tons of lacing. Strong vanilla scent, some chocolate and a tinge sour. Appropriately flat, medium mouth feel. Chocolate and sour for the flavor. Pretty good porter.

Toasty chocolatey comes first on the nose, but the finish is surprisingly tart, but in a good way, like a very dark bar of chocolate is a little acidic. This is a great beer.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Reviewed from notes.
Poured from cask, this brings a nice dark body with a fairly substantial head and a good dose of lacing on the way down. Nose brings roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, and some anise. Taste is the same with the flavors blending quite smoothly. Feel is nice, but not quite what I would hope the cask would do to the flavors, especially within the brewpub itself. Drinks quite well and was one of my favorite beers of the afternoon.

20101024 hand pump at brewpub. Grassy and light woodsy aroma from this very dark, stouty looking beer. Dry palate, yet sticky finishing. Very nice.22.214.171.124.15

Cask --- good porter, pretty mild flavors, but drinks well. Deep color, with tan head. Not as rich as Founders, good balanced brew.
