3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 muzzlehatch (4425) - Burlington, USA - DEC 30, 2004
Cask sample at the brewpub. The faintest hint of a foamy ring sits on a bed of utter darkness...a vinous, chocolaty pungency assails the nostrils and hints of raisins waft forward...extremely sweet is the creamy, pillowy soft body with raisins, dessert wine, sweet chocolate, a touch of orange liqueur, and just enough roastiness to keep it together and keep the teeth from rotting. A delight.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 aracauna (2691) - Georgia, USA - JUN 22, 2011
Toasty chocolatey comes first on the nose, but the finish is surprisingly tart, but in a good way, like a very dark bar of chocolate is a little acidic. This is a great beer.

Reviewed from notes.
Poured from cask, this brings a nice dark body with a fairly substantial head and a good dose of lacing on the way down. Nose brings roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, and some anise. Taste is the same with the flavors blending quite smoothly. Feel is nice, but not quite what I would hope the cask would do to the flavors, especially within the brewpub itself. Drinks quite well and was one of my favorite beers of the afternoon.

Cask at the brewpub. Poured black with a medium brown head. Aroma was full of malts, with chocolate and licorice present. Flavor was full of dark chocolate notes with a bit of raisin underneath, but don’t pick up and sourness as in the description.
