This one will sneak up on you if you are not careful (I speak from experience). So easy drinking and rather strong... bad combo. But oh so delicious.

[4107-20111112] Tap. Mild grainy alcohol aroma. Dark dark brown body with a long-lasting creamy off-white head. Toasted grains and boozy malt flavour has a lingering vinaigrette-like base. Medium body. Hides the alcohol well overall, nice muted fruits. (6/3/6/3/14) 3.2

2011-11-12. Very dark brown body with a small beige head. 3+ First sip is quite odd, bit of a roasty toasty malt character up front fades but the introduction is a bit jarring. Sweet sugary malt slowly reveals itself, mild yeast is almost weizen bock like with a tangy not to it. 6+ Aroma is similar, toasty malt is almost dusty - carafa malt like maybe? No idea where its coming from but its familiar somehow. 6+ Average plus bodied palate. I am not sure what it is about it but it was not working for me today. Followup: We had Bells Hell Hath No Fury later this night. and I am just guessing but it seems like they are both striving for the same kind of "double", neither of which is what I think when I think dubbel, but Bells executes it much more pleasingly. On tap at Arbor Brewing, Ann Arbor

Deep dark brown coloured body with a very thin light brown head. Aroma of raisins, pit fruit, alcohol, prunes, nuts, malt and a touch of chocolate. Medium to Full-bodied; Deep chewy malt flavour with a lot of cereal and grain flavours, some light toffee and chocolate notes and a good prolonged sweetness from pit fruits, raisins and prunes. Aftertaste is a bit complex with some light spices at first, a touch of roasted malt and a good yeasty note with bread and a bitter spice toward the end. Overall, an interesting dubbel - a bit more potent than others (kind of on the way to a quad taste) but showing some good flavours and nice complexity. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Siciliano’s in Grand Rapids, Michigan on 06-November-2010 for US$2.19 sampled at home in Washington on 04-May-2011.

Reviewed from notes. On tap December 09. Pours a dark chestnut with a garner hue and an off white to tan head that leaves some sticky lace rings. Nose brigs a bit of dark fruit but is fairly faint. Taste brngs much more, adding in raisins, brown sugar, and a bit of booze. Feel is bit light and hot, but overall this drinks pretty well. Serving type: on-tap Reviewed on: 10-12-2010

Dark, cloudy brown pour. Fluffy tan head. Deliciously sweet and malty aroma. Raisins, brown sugar, dates, figs, and tofee notes stand out. Flavor is wonderfully loaded with dark dried fruits, honey, very light bitterness and some crackery malt flavors. Great stuff.

Sour apple aroma and flavor, earthy bitterness, slightly sweet, pretty darn good mouthfeel, much darker that I expected. Has an off flavor that I have only ever experienced in a batch of stout my brother made that got infected with some kind of mold. I would not recommend this to a friend. I also did some research and found other tasted the same thing in older batches.

Love me some Belgian Dubbels, in general. This has a nice carnal, almost anise aroma. Sweet, but a bit flat. At the brewery, I actually like to have them spike it with their Imperial IPA, the Larry Hoppe.

Deep garnet with a small head that quickly dissipates. Fades to moderate lacing. Powerful nose opens with dark fruits, hint of smoke, bit of alcohol. Thin mouthfeel, bit of sour and tart lingering fruit and alcohol notes on the finish. Not bad, kind of middle in the pack in this style.
