Cask Gravity at The Hope ’Living is Easy’ Beer Fest. It pours jet black, with a thick beige head. The nose is roasted malt, smoke, spice, cocoa powder, leather and a hint of dark fruit. The taste is roasted malt, charcoal, dark fruit, port/vinous, wood, coffee, touch of tanginess, pepper, bitter chocolate and cola. Pretty full body (for the percentage) and soft carbonation. Full flavour, well balanced and damn-right delicious. Great stuff!

Chelmsford Beer Festival. Opaque black brown beer. Decent bubbly tan head. Light dry palate. Rich dark malt with a little roast - pretty subtle. Mild coffee. Unsweet dark chocolate. Lovely berry fruits provide great counterbalance. Red berry fruits, black berry fruits - rich, tangy and juicy. I presume these fruits coming from the Port. Finishes dry. Not tasted a better Port Stout than this. Really nice fruits.

Bottle on the train to Edinburgh (from Bitter Virtue) 08/12/12. Mid black with a big dirty coffee head that thins but retains well. Nose is roast malts, dark toffee, touch of booze, molasses, dark fruits, wood, port. Tastes comprises roast malt, some hop presence, barley, touch of smoke, berry fruits, light mineral tones. Medium bodied with bite, soft carbonation, bitter roast in the dry finish. Really good drop!

UPDATED: JUL 27, 2012 Cask-conditioned at the Three Tuns, Bristol 23/07/2012. Near black with a hint of red and frothy tan head. Bitter chocolate aroma with some blackcurrant lurking in the background and toasty malts. Flavour had plenty more fruit and chocolate, leading to a lingering, dryish finish with some vaguely vinous warmth. Excellent, Arbor have always brewed their dark beers well.

bottle at home ... oh looks perfect ... deep black ... nice solid tan brown head ... soft mellow toffee chocolate roast nose... soft chocolate ... ligth toffeee ...little charcoal coffee ... quite mellow but a bit thin, give then another 2% abv and it would be stunning as is nice but a little lack luster

I found out how Waitrose deal with projectile vomiting this evening. Very impressive, they masked their fear of Norovirus very well. I felt very sorry for them. I think my little one just had too much to eat at her Christmas party. Picked up a Kipling but couldn’t find any port at a good price. Good job there’s port in this then. Under strict orders not to eat the cheese though. Wonder if this is the first review to mention Norovirus?

to be honest this is not really very porty, it tastes like a light imperial stout which is no bad thing, lost of coffe on the back taste, this is a really nice alternative to an imperial stout is has the charicteristics but not he alchol level , i will be revisiting this beer and recomend it

Black pour. Big tan head that slowly falls, leaving a ton of lacing. Big bubbly, creamy head. Roasted grains and some fruitiness at the front of the nose. Some malt and chocolate at the back. Bitter up front, followed by a nice chocolate malt flavor. Some of the fruity notes carry over into the taste. Nice sweet finish with some black coffee bitterness in the back. Nice beer.
