An exceptionally dark stout has been created exclusively for The Gryphon in collaboration with Arbor Ales.
"Rainbow in the Dark" ale was an idea from The Gryphon’s Landlord, John Ashby, as way of commemorating the one year anniversary of Ronnie James Dio’s sad passing. After a discussion with Arbor Ales, who were more than happy to get on board, the creative juices started flowing. After weeks of preparation and combining of fantastic ingredients, this exceptional ale is now available on tap only at The Gryphon.
Light floral tones and slight hoppy tang of a paler ale gives way to a thick cocoa and coffee aftertaste.
This ale is amazing and not to be missed.

Cask-conditioned and enjoyed while listening to the heavy metal at the Gryphon, Bristol 15/06/2011. Jet black in colour with a decent tan head. Contrasting aroma of dark chocolate, charcoal, lime and orange blossoms. Flavour began with stout attributes of more plain chocolate and black coffee before hoppy notes of citrus, pine and grapefruit, with some roastiness in the finish. Full bodied and excellent.

Cask conditioned gravity dispense Northants Beer Festival 2011. A very very black beer with a sumptuous beige head. I worked the As and Bs all the time I was at the festival and this beer just looked magnificent every time I served it. A really good hoppy stout which is what Arbor described it as on Twitter. Fruity dark licorice notes. Great roast and licorice in the mouth. Very bitter and very good. My second best beer of the fest.
